Editorial Review for Southwest School of Art & Craft, Navarro Campus – by Shannon Botkin
Haven
A quiet, shady spot in the middle of downtown's tall buildings and rushed traffic, the Southwest School of Art and Craft is gaining national recognition for its dozens of workshops and art classes offered each semester. If you don't have the time to learn how to make your own paper, then just drop in and walk around the landscaped courtyards of this old convent, which was the first girls' school in the city.
History
Established by nuns of the Ursuline Order, the buildings are a fine example of rare French architecture, and the grounds are a beautiful place to spend a breezy afternoon watching artists create and sell their wares. Two galleries also feature the work of visiting artists, instructors and students. Some of the instructors wares are on sale in the Gift Shop.
