The lowest point in San Antonio gets more than its fair share of water to support a thriving plant population..
Shady Places
If you're hot and tired of working on the tan, this is the place to picnic. Tucked into the vegetation are over 50 picnic nooks complete with elaborately stone-crafted grills for barbecuing. Most of the picnic sites overlook a gurgling creek that, with the help of the trees' shading, creates a cooling effect even in sweltering August.
Wheeling and Dealing
The roads that meander through the park are adequate for running and biking. But inline skaters beware: Because of water erosion, the roads are cracked, bumpy and gravelly. But the residential streets wandering through Alamo Heights and Olmos Park--the swank neighborhoods surrounding the park--are excellent for biking, running and rollerblading.
Shady Characters
While this park offers a safe respite from the sun during the day, visitors are advised against lingering in the park after dark.
