One of the few buildings at Fort Sam Houston that's open to the public is kid-friendly. Furry Charm
The main reason to visit the Quadrangle is for the small deer, rabbits, peacocks and other birds who live within the walls. In fact, animals have inhabited the grounds since at least the 1880s, and nobody knows why. There's probably some whimsical explanation, or at least the modern day result is whimsical: small rabbits hide in the shade of massive limestone walls and the impressive clock tower.

Cut to the Chase
Small children especially love to pursue the rabbits and birds. Don't worry, there's a resting pen for animals who need to take a break from visitors. Unfortunately, there aren't many benches available for adults who need a break from standing.

Cannon, Clock and Sundial
History buffs are drawn to the Quadrangle for its other historic features. Built in 1876 as a supply depot, it's the oldest building at Fort Sam Houston. Rows of individual offices make up the square--they were once blacksmith and wheelwright shops and stables.
