Outstanding guitar repair work. John refretted my 1973 Gibson Es-335 and did the most oustanding workmanship that I have ever seen..every fret was perfectly installed..in two weeks time, was nothing compared to what other places in SA and Austin told me it would take and his price was cheaper..my guitar sounds like new..I've been playing with local San Antonio bands since 1964 and I know San Antonio lacks the skilled string instrument techs like they have in Austin, Houston or Dallas., but John is one of those rare skilled techs that you can trust your instrument with..he is very very good...I highly recommend the Guitar Tex for any string instrument work, plus some their prices on accessories are cheaper..

Awesome store, felt like home!. I have been to guitar tex on several occasions for repairs, maintenance and other things. The staff here is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and accommodating. While there, they not only helped me but taught me how to take care of the issue at home. The atmosphere is very relaxed and makes it very easy to trust these gentlemen with my expensive toys. They are open to letting you play anything in the store. One guy even sat down and jammed with my friend on the banjo. I have nothing but good things to say about guitar tex and would recommend them to anyone. I was so comfortable there I felt like I was in my living room.

Always go to Guitar Tex.. Great! After a terrible experience at House of Guitars, we went to get a mandolin serviced at Guitar Tex. HoG quoted us from Thursday to Tuesday to fix the mandolin, in which Guitar Tex did right in front of us in about 15 or 20 minutes. Not only that, but showed us exactly how to solve the tricky problems. A plethora of knowledge and kindness, these two gentlemen have created a lifelong customer out of me. I'm just a student, so I have limited funds, but I'm really looking forward to taking all my guitars here to have them serviced, because I know when I get them back they will sing better then they did the day I bought them.

I was handed instruments to try, rare and interesting pieces. I was shown licks on the banjo, I was jammed with. They joke pleasantly and inspire aspiring young musicians. Plus, you can walk across the street and play more guitars at Red Bone. Cant wait to go back!

The guitar store.. Simply the best. Mark and Gus have so much knowledge that you will have all the answers after spending time with them. I have purchased my best instruments from them and I am overjoyed. The big music stores are insignificant and clueless when it comes to guitar knowledge.

If you are serious about music this store is your resource.

Look at cool guitars without having to hear someone play "Stairway to Heaven.". Service
Mark Waldrop, the proprietor of Guitar Tex at 4211 McCullough, is good people. He is obviously someone who found something he loves to do and can make a living doing it. It appears that he would be just as pleased to talk to you about a guitar as he would be to sell you one. While he is quick to tell you he's "only" been repairing acoustic and electric guitars for six years he has to be baited to admit that his regular customers include local favorites like Charlie Robinson and Infidel's Michael Martin.

The Goods
The small shop's stock is more acoustics than electrics and only a handful of basses and amps can be displayed at a time. There are large index cards taped to the walls that give additional information about guitar makers and products but you'd be better off directing your questions to Mark if you really want the skinny.
