A romantic walk along the San Antonio River.. In Short
At 20 feet below street level, the San Antonio River flows right through the middle of downtown and is bordered by narrow cobblestone sidewalks and giant cypress trees. By day, river cruisers float barges full of tourists between the three miles of shady paths, flower beds, historical buildings and unique restaurants. By night, the Riverwalk comes alive with colorful lights, mariachi music and sometimes even locals. The outdoor cafes offer everything from the usual Tex-Mex fare to classy Mediterranean cuisine, and virtually every bar and dance club comes complete with a line of people waiting to get in. But if you really want to capture the magic and beauty of the Paseo del Rio, stroll along its banks early in the morning, before the tourists descend and the money and margaritas flow faster than the water's current. That's when the Riverwalk really shines.
