The Program
Begun in 1994 with 12 students from one high school, SAY Si! (San Antonio Youth YES!) has since expanded to 35 students from 12 schools. With a mission of providing students with artistic and social skills for educational and professional futures, the organization revolves around three major programs: a visual arts component for students grades 9-12; Project Working Artists and Mentors, a year-round Saturday morning program for middle schoolers; and the Graphic Arts Lab, a computer-based technology program for both high school and middle schoolers.
The Projects
Say Si! seeks to promote positive growth, change and development by encouraging positive group activity. Students traditionally follow semester-long tracks which have included Book Arts, Pop Art and Folktales. Curricula are designed to help students grow as individuals, while developing problem-solving and art skills. The studio is currently open five days/30 hours a week, with eight to ten exhibitions a year.
