Moor, Please The Spanish Colonial Revival building was designed by several architects, including Atlee B. Ayres, all of whom received the American Institute of Architects Gold Medal in 1929. On Jan. 6, 1979, a fire destroyed the roof and almost all the interior. A restoration was completed in 1985. An abundance of blue-on-white interior spaces and wood-coffered ceilings give the public areas a Mediterranean ambience. The yellow-tiled Byzantine domes shine like miniature suns, and the white structure as a whole glows brilliantly under the South Texas sun.
