Ruben's is Family. Ruben's has been in my family for generations. When i finally was old enough my aunt let me work for a day. just a day. that was all it took to understand how hard those ladies worked. in christmas time there are no exceptions to waiting for tamales. my dad would wait outside at 2am in the cold with a bunch of other ppl waiting for the store to open. This is a store that tries its hardest to make its customers happy and make sure everyone gets all the tamales they want but times are getting tough. With no one old enough to take care of the old place ppl are getting frusterated. so all f you writing horrible comments really should think before you dare write about this again. personally i would give anything for this great place and their wonderful food all handmade and yummy. :) and when they said handmade they mean hand made! there is a line of ladies working their butts off for you ppl and you write such horrible things! You obviously fail as a respectable human being.…
SLOW DOWN. MAKING TO FAST OR NOT DOING GOOD Q.C SOME ARE NOT FULLY COOKED ,NOW MORE MASA THEN MEAT AT LAST VIST SAT.
best tamales in Texas.
I'm a little surprised at some of the reviews but considering that they sell to thousands of people every year I guess some people will be negative. I've lived all over the USA and the world and
Rubens has the best tamales, period. You can keep those Laredo tamales and I tried HEB tamales last month. Wrapped in foil, they looked like the real thing until I opened them and tried them.
Rubens tamales taste the same way as they did in the 60's and they are made the same way, one at a time. Everyone else is selling machine made tamales at the same price as Rubens which makes Rubens a San Antonio institution.
If you go there between Thanksgiving and Christmas expecting fast service you really need to go elsewhere. I have never had bad service or received a bad product and the large number of tamales they sell means that a lot of other people agree so don't be misguided by the negative reviews try it for your self.…
Bland. After relocating to San Antonio from Laredo people kept talking about how good Rubens tamales were. Well I tasted pretty darn good tamales back home. So today I took the trip to Rubens tamales to see what all the fuzz was about. I saw the line all the way outside the store. After waiting for an hour I finally brought some home. I opened one wasn't fully cooked and the tamal was stuck to the husk. It wasn't even the a shape of a tamale. The tamale was dry and the taste was bland. Sorry I will not buy anymore tamales from this place.…
NOT SO GOOD. My co-worker brought some pork tamales from Ruben's for potluck. The tamales are dry and tasteless.
