my favorite restaurant. my husband and i - love to eat we are always looking for a little escape. We found it. Nancy our usual waitress reads your mind and the food is like the food that i used to eat in europe.

Simultaneously classy and unpretentious, this French bistro remains intimately inviting.. The Scene
Tucked in a tiny Olmos Park shopping center, Bistro Vatel captures the feel of a Parisian eatery, complete with specials listed on a chalkboard and tables draped in white cloths and a piece of butcher paper.

The Food
French chefs have never met a dish they couldn't improve with a sauce. No exception here: The chef at Bistro Vatel is a master of the art, preparing a magically well-balanced cream sauce for the steamed mussels, a tangy and rich tomato sauce for the salmon and a plump wine sauce that turns what could have been a mundane chicken breast into a passionate culinary experience. Even the dressings are superior--the Gorgonzola salad was well-paired with a fruity vinegar topping. Appropriately small portions left room for a mild banana ice cream with, naturally, a sauce of silky chocolate.
