The Scene
With seven locations in San Antonio and four Austin stores Wolfe Nursery has a firm hold on the yard-and-garden business. The San Pedro location does the most business and by extension, seems to be the most well-stocked. Both the interior and exterior areas are spacious and allow room for the large carts that are provided for hauling around your goods. Be on the lookout for weeklong plant specials that begin every Friday. Beware of patrons who haven't mastered the art of cart operation.
The Goods
All the botanical basics can be found here, as well as a fairly extensive selection of indoor plants. Wolfe's assortment of trees and yard shrubs is also respectable, but the staff's knowledge outweighs the selection. Most Wolfe nurseries are equipped with at least two Texas-certified professionals, and some locations offer design and landscaping services. Terra cotta containers and other ceramic plant vessels are stocked, but for those gardeners tired of cracked pots, opt for one of the heavy-duty plastics ones.
