The Scene
While scrutinizing the flowers and greenery at the Grove, make a point to pick the brain of Craig Oatman, primary owner of this family-owned and -operated venture. Along with his brother and mother, he is almost always on hand, pulling wagons and answering esoteric questions. Plant groupings are clearly delineated and contain informative and easy-to-read placards for each plant variety included.
The Goods
The Grove carries a range of annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees. This nursery is distinctive, though, from other area garden centers because of its extensive varieties of antique roses and its abundant quantity of unusual native perennials--great for those who have a yen for a xeriscaped yard. While you might not find the most exotic of plants here, the Grove carries foliage that, as the owner's brother emphasizes, "is easy to grow"--meaning, you won't be burdened by any plants that are needy and difficult to please.
