Good pizza? Yes - Worth it? Absolutely not!

by Voluntary Critique

The pizza, while good, isn't worth putting up with the rude staff and owner.

You have to place your order before they will put you on the list for a table, but don’t expect your drinks until you get to the table. If you want a drink, go to the bar, but I warn you, it isn’t service with a smile. We go to the bar and the bartender immediately tells us we can't have a 14 and 7 year old in the bar area while we ordered our drinks - we had to send them to the other room. The whole while, he allows a boy of maybe 11 to stand there for more than an hour. After about 45 minutes we get a table and soon after, the pizza arrives at our table. The pizza was good but they were skimpy on the mushrooms. There is no wait staff to speak of in that there are no waiters. Everything is ordered and paid for ahead of time. They have runners who bring the pizza to the table and show up twice - the first time to ask if you need a refill on your drink and the second to ask if you have any problems. Yes - not – “Is there anything else you need? “ But, "Do you have any problems?" Our answer was no, everything was fine. During this exchange, we notice that the owner was blatantly standing behind the girl with two people waiting to clear our table. We were there to celebrate a birthday and were in the middle of opening cards and sharing conversation, while the birthday boy continued to eat. Well I guess they didn't like our answer because "Lou" then positioned himself in the other room and essentially stared us down for the next 10 to 15 minutes until we finally left. As we left, my husband took Lou’s hand and said we won't be back.

If you are in for a novelty experience - go to Big Lou's - if you want a good family experience and good pizza - go to your nearest Double Dave's and order the thin crust where the staff is always nice and you have some games to entertain the kids to boot.

  • Pros: Ordering the oversized pizza is a novelty experience.
  • Cons: The place offers nothing beyond the novelty.

Great Experience!

by SolaLite

We had a great experience at Big Lou's. We went on a Wed night and ordered the 42" with everything on it. I thought it was fine to order first, then get seated. The wait was not that long and they warn you first that the giant pizza's (37-42") can take up to 1-2 hrs. We knew this going in, and were pleasantly suprised at how fast it actually came out (less than an hr.) Our waitress was very nice and very attentive. Big Lou came over and talked to us awhile and even took some photos with us. The crust was so thin and delicious. The toppings were smothered under the cheese. I would definately eat here again.

  • Pros: great crust and cheese; very friendly wait staff
  • Cons: parking...but we managed

Better have about 3 hours for lunch

by thebeard77

I went there this Sunday at 1pm and first you walk in and stand in line to place your order, then you have to wait again to be seated by the "hostess" which will not take your name down until you order your food. You have to wait to get your table before you get your drinks and then be prepared to talk to some friends, do your taxes, and read a book because you are going to be waiting. And conserve your drink because after your "waiter" seats you, you are not going to see them again until your food is ready which will be a while. We waited in line for 20 minutes to get to the front of the line and then the girl behind the register stood there listening to the other register talk to the cook for no reason before she took our order. We then sat around for 30 minutes before getting a table. Drinks finally brought out, but the cup was too big for my 5 year old niece so we asked for a small lidded cup like we got for the babies water. Waitress said she would be right back, but did not come back until 45 minutes later when the pizza (2 - 16 inch pepperoni pizzas) was brought out. At which time I again asked for the smaller cup and a refill of my Dr.Pepper, again waitress gone for 20 minutes by which time we had walked up to the register to get a to-go box since waitress no where in sight before waitress returned and brought my refill of Dr.Pepper and joked "sorry almost forgot about that." We had already packed and were getting up to leave when she came back. The worst dinning experience I have ever had and I have been in foreign countries many times. Do not go to this place until they fire every last one of the wait and register staff and get a better plan on how to run a restraunt. And by the way, they had the gaul to include a mandatory tip at the begining when we placed our order and paid becuase we had 4 adults, a 5 year old and a baby for a waitress that gave us 1 round of drinks, brought out 2 pizzas, and handed me a large glass cup as we were leaving that I had to drink down quickly before we left. This place is terrible,

  • Pros: Pizza is very tastey
  • Cons: Setup is stupid and wait staff are terrible.
