huge pizza. The pizza here is very good. It was so huge we could not even finish it all. i will be coming back here.
SPLIT DOWN DA MIDDLE. Okay...the pizza is good & I'm not a pizza person at all. It took forever to get our food, but our party was huge, the place was crowded and the pizza was enormous...so this is to be expected. Not at all comfortable with paying such a hefty tip before being served as well as ordering at a counter...not cool and certainly not worth tipping someone for a job I did myself...yikes! Ok, it just so happened that I knew the young man who was our waiter and he was excellent. Hopefully this experience would have been the same if I had gotten someone I didn't know. All in all my like/dislike for this place is split right down the middle. Would I go back again...not if I'm the one paying the bill! On the other hand if someone wants to treat me...I'm in. Bottomline...worth the trip if you are not the one footing the bill!!!

Big hype for an average pizza. Long lines, long wait, non-negotiable included 15% gratuity for absolutely NO SERVICE (WHY???). You order your pizza at a counter, not at your table. Why a tip? For what, not spitting too much in your pizza? Not dropping it on the floor? What the *&^% is a tip for???
If you want to pay your employees more money, Big Lou, just charge more for your pizza! Why the scam?
Coming from a long term customer and a woman in the cooperate profession for the restaurant business:
Big Lou's is an amazing, friendly, and great family oriented and ran business. What most of this people don't realize is that its not a cooperation ran restaurant your not coming to a cici's, a peter pipers, or pizza hut. What makes this restaurant stand out IS the food, it is made from scratch so it will take a little bit longer to make that's what makes them different and their food authentic and great tasting. They also carry a 42' and 37' pizza which im pretty sure you already heard about due to man vs. food or from word around town, and because of that their business has sky rocketed through the roof and has lead them to add on an edition to the restaurant to better service their customers. I understand yes the wait is lengthy but you also have to realize people from everywhere are coming to try it, they accommodate parties from 6 all the way to 50, honestly can you go anywhere else that will accommodate that many ppl in about 1 or 2 hours, serve you a humongous pizza with appetizers, bring all of your drinks with the amount of space given with a smile on their face, i dont think so. Me being a customer and loving to go out to eat in parties at different cooperate restaurants with my family and friends ive had the worst experiences you would never believe starting off from taking too long to get sat down, to bringing the drinks, then getting my order wrong or it being cold, then giving me the wrong ticket, BIG LOU'S HAS THE RIGHT IDEA!!! You just have to give them a chance, like i said before their not cooperation thank god!. Theirs not 50 or 100 of them all over the world. Theirs only one BIG LOU'S and their doing the best that they can with what has been given to them, they just need to stop being bashed for the smallest things thats ruining their reputation and if you customers think that this place is so horrendous then bring it to the managements attention so it can be fixed instead of writing about it online how are they suppose to fix it for your next visit. And none of you can tell me that you've gone to a restaurant numerous times and have not had one bad experience, If so please let me know cause i would love to visit this place! If it exists. As for the waitstaff i honestly see their doing the best that they can given the amount of parties they have, the limited space and the customers. Have you ever just stopped to look around, ppl are blaming them for a situation their not in control of like the waiting time, where there sat, and how long their food takes, customers are out to rip of heads! If you honestly can say your server is horrible you see them playing around or bull sh*tting then yes you have a right to complain but if not please bare with them their doing the best that they can. Theres NO such thing as a super waiter with super powers, they can only do so much their bringing out trays of drinks at a time through a crowd that just wont move excuse me but im pretty sure if you had 9 32 oz drinks of soda on a try balancing through a crowd dodging customers and kids you might be a little rattled but thats what makes them great at their job cause not most ppl can't do that, i know i can't.
I can see that their doing their best. Have some consideration their there to help you to make your visit a memorable and great one, their not your servants and do not need to be, belittled at their job or made to feel like a servant. Now after reading all these reviews here's mine:
Big Lou 42 - NOT worth the wait!!!!.
Went to have a birthday party for my nine year old at Big Lou's on Saturday at 3:00pm. Called and talked with the owner the week before and he stated that would not be a problem and that he could get us seated. Party arrived at 3:00 to find a restaurant FULL of people waiting to be seated. Waited in line for 15 minutes just to order the pizza. Was told that we would be seated in about 2 hours but that they could not tell us how long it would take for the pizza to get there.
When trying to even get to the line to order, there was a waitress trying to get to a table that practically ran us over and never said excuse me. Just stood there staring at me as if to say "get out of my way because I am not moving".
Very bad experience twice. The first visit we waited about 30 minutes to sit and then over an hour for our pizza. PIzza is okay but certainly not worth the wait.
Needless to say we ended the party at CiCi's Pizza down the road with great service.
You have a novelty pizza that is a gimmick that will soon wear off. Unfortunately your rude unfriendly staff will eventually kill your business. I will tell everyone to steer clear of Big Lou's. This is not your competiton. this is a paying customer!!
Why are we charged a tip BEFORE service. I am a very good tipper. I will tip extra for good service. So why are we charged a tip before the pizza is delivered. And to say the people complaining are the ones that dont tip 15-17% is just very rude and condensending. I have noticed it you go on the weekend it so busy the staff and owner does not handle it very well, during the week they seem calmer. It is a great novelty place to take someone too.. really great pizza, no it is not, but it is not horrible either. And Lou, please do not berate your customers on line, The customers, good bad and ugly made you and your pizza place. Customers get to complain about owners, owners dont look good when they complain about customers!
Wonderful Experience!. Flew in from Pittsburgh looking for a good place to eat. Found the best pizza I ever ate! Food is definitely worth the wait. Also enjoyed the hospitality. Staff went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. Don't miss this place!
The pizza tastes pretty good, but the service is horrible. The lines are long and the wait tedious, but it is worth it. I got hair in my food twice in a row, so I stopped going for a while because of the ick factor, but I think I'm ready to give it a try again.
I'll tell you what, a rant by the owner on a public website? Not cool and pretty juvenile. That could have been said in a much classier way.
I'd say try it, just not on a Friday at lunch. You'll wait an hour just to order. But the popularity is a good thing - it means the food is good.
Truth About a Customer !!!!. The Truth about a customer is that they have no consideration for one another and that in turn makes things difficult for my staff. Not only are they complaining while they are in line waiting to oder but then they will also complain while they are waiting to be seated. The majority of the parties that we get here at Big lou's are parties of 20-50 and will normally take place on the weekend. Since we don't take reservations we will normally get these parties coming in without warning and that's okay because we are here to try and service everyone. Unfortunately patients is none existent here at Big Lou's, there insn't any resaurant in San Antonio that is able to accommodate the kind of parties that we will accommodate. I have customers yelling and abusing my staff on a nightly basis trying to force them to make other customers that have already finished eating leave so they can be seated. Then after hours of complaining they sit down eat their food and then after they are finished eating they do exactly the same thing the customer before them did " MAKE OTHER CUSTOMERS WAIT FOR THEM TO MOVE SO THEY COULD HAVE A CHANCE TO EAT ". Then when my staff asks them politely to move so another customer can sit they get offended and run down to the nearest computer to tell the world how rude and inconsiderate my staff is. Well I say to you " DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD WANT THEM TO DO UNTO YOU ". When I came up with the idea of the 37" and 42" pizza I was intending to accommodate parties of 10-15 instead we have been getting parties of 20-50 and now I am having customers going online of course and saying how stupid weare for creating such a large pizza because they have to wait to be seated, well I say to you are we the stupid ones, common sense tells you that if there is a line outside and no parking you probably might have to wait not only to be seated but also for your food, I personally have never been to any other pizza place and not had to wait even if there aren't many other customers because most pizzas are made to order. I could sit here all day long commenting to negative comments ranging from all the signs that I have hanging in our restaurant to the way we service our customers but I am not going to cower behind my computer. I am very proud of what we offer our great community, I feel very fortunate to have serviced our community for the last 11 years. You the customer have made us who we are and I am greatful and I know that we have alot of great customers that really appreciate the job we do. We are currently under construction and should be able to make your dining experience a very good one in months to come, but until then please if you have any problems concerning anything here at our resaurant please feel free to bring it up to management because I can't fix the problem unless you address the problemwith us properly, not by hiding behind your computer trashing us for everyone to see trying to ruin our business. For the Big Lou's faithful please don't worry about us changing our products to try and save money because of our construction, if anything we are working hard to try to make our product line even better so you wil be even happier. One last comment for our competition I have received information that there have been several other resaurants that have posted negative comments about our resaurant and if that is true don't forget about a little thing called karma, I feel that there is plenty of business for everyone and I to become a customer throughout the week and eat at several of my fellow restaurateurs places and have never once posted any negative comments about any other establishments.
