Capparelli's On Main. I have been eating at the Caparelli's restaurants for decades. I have a menu from their location that once stood where the Bill Millers is on Nodgodoches and 410 when a 16" Supreme Pizza was $1.25! The pizza is my personal favorite, I like the Italian Sausage. For dining in the Chicken Parmesian sandwich with a salad and drink is an awesome lunch special. I also like the Rigatoni and meatball dinner or lunch special. Service has always been a priority at this family run business.Staff will go out of their way to please, and the owner, Gay, will always do the right thing to the benefit of her customers. For pizza orders at lunch call in ahead about twenty minutes and the order will be ready for you upon your arrival. The staff will be more than happy to accomodate large parties. Best pizza in town nobody is even close. This is a true blue collar San Antonio institution

Get there early. I have been eating there since it opened. I grew up in a small predominately Italian-Amarican neighborhood in Western Pennsylvania. The sauces and dishes taste like the ones I grew up eating. It's like a touch of back home. Every meal has been wonderful. My kids and I also like the pizzas.

The service is excellent. Quick, but not rushed, even during the rush hours. Get there early or you may have to stand in line for a table. The food is worth the wait. Good wine selection, lunch and dinner specials.

Gay, her Mom and the staff are there to please the customers and do a great job. It is a family run restaurant with family recipes.

Go early, go often. I do.

Wonderful luch spot. Had a group of 6 for lunch--what a great spot. I had never been here before. Waiter recommended anything with meatballs. I had the ravioli with meatballs lunch. Also came with a salad. Very good deal. The tomato sauce was wonderful. Owner came and checked on us. GREAT place!

A pretencious look that falls flat.. I like the area where this restaurant is. It isn't a well traveled area and in a quaint location. The restaurant has great curb appeal. The inside has a flavor of a small family operation yet a taste of sophistication. The restaurant is clean. It is a cute restaurant and has an intimate setting. The food was good, but it certainly was great. Even the Olive Garden has a less industrial taste than this place. We were hoping for the flavor a old Italian recipes brought over by the Capparelli family, but instead we got sub-par Olive Garden.

I had a Chicken Salad and my wife had tortellini w/ red wine sauce. Now the food was good; however, based on the pretentious look and high priced menu, we expected a lot more. My salad wasn't much better than what I make at home. My wife's meal was good, but not so full of taste that we would go back.

Ah, one other person comment on the bread. Don't waste any carb points on the bread. My wife described it as 2 day old bread that they buttered, warmed and served.

Our waitress was a wirey red head who was very eager to sit us and take our order (she hardly let us look at the menu), but then she disappeared after she took the order...oh except for at the end of the meal when we had to listen to her discussing her life in her loud and wirey voice.

it isn't a terrible place...just not what they would have believe it is.

Great Food and Service!. We have been to Capparelli's on Main many times. The food is always great. The service is outstanding. The atmosphere is perfect. The upstairs is quite nice - the mural on the wall is something to see. If eating downstairs, be sure to check out the "cement shoes" that ask "Where is Jimmy?" Overall, two thumbs up in our book and we will return again.

Best Italian food I've ever eaten!. Every dish we've tried has been amazing! The sauces are out of this world! The calamari seasoning is the best! My 2 gripes: no homemade desserts and miserable bread. My 2 solutions: cut the carbs and skip the bread basket and walk 2 stores down to Justin's Gelato Ice Cream.

Best in San Antonio. G. Capparelli and the Capparelli famliy have the best food in the world. The place on main is the best one and you should eat there at least 3 times a week. Guy jrs place on Bitters Rd is also a great place to eat. The Capparelli family has been giving San Antonio great Italian food since the 1920's. It should be a traditon to eat there.

Good Pizza. This place is really good for their pizza. I'm not too much a fan of anything else except maybe the wine, which is somewhat reasonably priced. But truly, I believe the best pizza they make is the vegetarian. You need to try this one even if you like meaty versions of pizza. My family loves meat pizza yet didn't really care for the Caparelli meat laden version. However, they enjoyed the vegetarian version on my recommendation. Seems like the pizza needs the water in the vegetables, that is what makes the difference there. Either way, pizza is good..

Old family recipes and schmaltzy charm presented under the watchful eyes of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.. The Scene
Local artists Kerry Ferguson and Jesse Flores painted the black-and-white portraits of Italian celebrities that line the walls of this low-key neighborhood institution. There's a menacing Al Pacino downstairs, and a mural upstairs that includes Luciano Pavarotti and Marlon Brando. The painting above the fireplace depicts owner Gay Capparelli's grandparents on their wedding day.

The Food
The spinach and artichoke appetizer is served hot and smothered with cheese--it's an interesting twist on an old standby, but very filling. The Super Sloppy is listed under sandwiches, but it's more like a pepperoni and mushroom pizza served on a large hunk of fresh Italian bread. Like any good recipe created by an Italian grandmother, the lasagna also comes in generous portions, layered with sliced meatballs, spicy sausage, and top-quality ricotta and mozzarella. The popular trout almondine is a little lighter, but not much. It's served with a lemon cream sauce and a side of spaghetti in red sauce.
