The Smell............ Its a great gym, but please, the spa services are less than comfortable. Noisy and disruptive. I think they should put their "Retreat" in a separate and private area. You access the Spa from the bathroom..........you're kidding right?
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. Upscale health club offers personal training, weights, exercise classes, cardiovascular equipment, and more in a resort-like setting.
One Stop Shop. This club has it all. You can eat at the club, have your nails done, get a massage, relax in the hot tub, sauna and steam, go for a swim, play racquetball and basketball, take a yoga class, lift weights, watch your own personal TV while walking on the treadmill and leave your kids in the best kids area I've ever seen in a club. The outdoor kids pool is another plus...my kids can't get enough of that HUGE slide. The staff are aleways friendly and very helpful. I would strongly recommend this club to anyone looking for a club with everything.
Love It!!!!!. I'm a charter member of the Rogers Ranch club, I was new to the city and the area when the club opened and have made lifelong friends since. The club keeps me interested with Cardio Groove classes and Pilates, my friends and I now have dancing as a hobby and meet at a nearby salsa restaurant for dinner and drinks with our hubbies. I love the instructors, the personal tvs, all the extra amenities in the locker room, the sauna, steamroom and whirlpool in the ladies locker room helps me relax and my kids love the kids club staff and their friends here, making it much easier for me to come to club....
Better than Home. I have been a Spectrum member for several years, I recently had to change my workout time to early mornings. I workout at the Rogers Ranch location, and it is awesome. I love the fact that I don't have to "haul" all my persoanl items with me. Everything from my bath towel, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, razors, lotion - it's great, if I forget anything the attendants are always available for me. They even have a steamer to freshen up my clothes so I am wrinkle free. The entire club is awesome, all the classes, equipment , the kids activities and the outdoor pool for the kid's is worth every penny.
great workout & pool. calm & serene club. the place is very well run. the staff is attentive, friendly and always willing to help, answer questions, etc. it's a beautiful club and I love the outdoor pool. there's an kid's pool and an adults only pool, which is really great! our whole family spends the summer at the pool, between that and the ability to get a great workout, it's money well spent!
best club in town.
I've been a member of health clubs since the early 90's. This location is by far the best in San Antonio. While the dues are on the higher side, you get what you pay for. I learned that the hard way. Life Time gym came to town last year and offered a similar product for cheaper so I thought I would try it. Cheaper only in dues, they charge for all other services and at the end of the day, I was paying more. I guess they also allow children in the workout areas which became very annoying and unsafe if you ask me. When the price starts out cheap, anyone can join and that was not what my family and I were looking for.
So I'm back at Spectrum Rogers Ranch. My children love the kids play area and my wife uses the personal training. The staff is consistant and always friendly. Good choice for those who prefer all the special touches in a club.
Club 4 Me!. I joined this gym based on feedback from friends and their success in "getting ready for swimsuit season." My first experience was much more pleasant that I expected, not being much of a gym person. The staff member who signed me up was nice, professional, very informed. I was amazed at the Kids Club - it is a top notch facility and their staff seem to really care about my kids while I was visitng, which made my decision to join easy. I've been enjoying a variety of classes. The spinning class is much harder than I thought, but if how my legs feel is any indication, I am surely going to look great for May!
spectrum at bandera point, rates up but going downhill. In the 3 years we've lived here and worked out at spectrum bandera point, they have raised their rates at least twice. For two people to be members and childcare is now running about $150 a month, which is so outrageous that my husband quit and i quit and rejoined after pregnancy. It is now $90 a month for me to be a member ( including childcare). They also charge you if you put your membership on hold for a month, say for being out of town. If you are military you have to speak up so they void this part for you. They raised the rates when they changed their name to Spectrum from raquetball and added hand lotions in bathroom. The only change we noticed! Anytime you go to work out much equipment is out of order, they don't seem to check equipment often or care enough to fix it in a timely manner. The manager who signed me up also was cheesy and salesy. The people who work in childcare seem attentive though, however...the baby bouncers are always dirty looking like they never wipe them off. I plan to join the new gold's gym opening at bandera very soon.
User review by melissalg2003. As of summer 2005, Spectrum at Rogers Ranch is the nicest health club in San Antonio. The equipment is great, personal TV on the Precor, indoor pool, outdoor pool with slide for kids. Lately, the equipment has been dirty (sweat puddles left under the machines for hours and hours! eww). The management tends to be completely unresponsive to complaints about equipment, policies, etc. So if you have a problem, don't waste your breath! Lately though, things have been getting better (which is probably b/c of competition moving in). The cost for a family is pricey ($193 per month) relative to other clubs, particularly its direct competition Lifetime Fitness -- a new club that is opening Dec 2005, nearby (281/Sonterra). Lifetime has all the ammenties of Spectrum, and more, for 1/2 the price. Many members are leaving Spectrum for Lifetime.
