Editorial Review for Azuca Nuevo Latino Restaurant – by Robert Macias
The Scene
Couples and families make up the bulk of the clientele in the always-buzzing dining room, while singles rule at the bar. The restaurant and bar are separated by a narrow and often crowded breezeway. Lighted columns and a quartz-like border on the bar imbue the room with an otherworldly glow.
The Food
The appetizer sampler is popular in the bar for its light assortment, including tender crab cakes and coconut shrimp. A delicious side, the mofongo is a lumpy mixture of mashed plantains served with pork rinds. The parillada mixta is a meat-lover's delight, with beef, chicken, pork and sausage in chimichurri sauce. Those with more modest appetites should try the pork loin carioca, which is caramelized and served over mashed boniato, a Cuban variety of sweet potato. Keep the sugar buzz alive with caramelized banana crepes, warm bananas wrapped in thin crepes and drizzled with orange sauce.

We enjoyed the ambiance and had a delicious meal. The goat cheese salad was excellent. We split one and the portion was large. We enjoyed the sea bass and paella. Everything was well prepared and the presentation was pleasing. It was a special last night of vacation meal! We recommend it to anyone visiting San Antonio as a alternative to all the Mexican food.
Pros: delicious food, great atmosphere, large portions

Azuca is one of my favorite places. While their entrees are great, the appetizers and drinks are the best. Definitely stop by for happy hour - the mojitos are great and their house wine is awesome for the happy hour price. I went with a friend and had several appetizers and drinks during happy hour and spent less than 25 dollars. Everything is delicious.
Pros: Ambience, Service, Food, Drinks, Entertainment
Cons: Sometimes noisy if there are a lot of people
