This is a terrible place to go!!! Horrible service!.
How is it that a New Yorker can't get service in New York Bar! My friends and I thought we were off to great start when we walked into New York Bar, until we met the bartender. The bartender refused
to serve my friends from out of state, including New York, and went on to say that they could not be in the bar. Had this bartender and manager been professional and courteous in delivering this bad news...I would not be using my time to write this review...but unfortunately they were both extremely rude. As our group left the establishment, the manager sarcastically wished us a good night and good luck finding another bar that they don't own..."because we own 10 bars in town." If you are looking for a good place to take your friends from out of state, avoid these bars: NewYork Bar, Chicago Bar, Boston Bar, Babcock bar...etc!
This was the worst experience I have ever had in a San Antonio bar!

One star is too much.
Ok, so I go there after work with a few friends for a beer, they all get the same and after wards we decide the music is too loud. There's no where to sit and the place is a dive. So we all get our
tickets, all my friends pay with cards and their tabs are 5 bucks. When i go to ring out it's 10, I ask the guy why and he tells me there's a 10 dollar minimum on cards. I know there's no such thing, I ask him about it. He says it's the rule, I talk to all the bartenders and they all tell me the same. There's no posted minimum signs and none of my friends pay the minimum. I'm gonna call the owners tomorrow.
If you're reading this, I hope it's before you go. If you do then I hope you decide to go somewhere else.…
Re-model, Re-open.
The same group that owns this place also operates Chicago, Boston, and New York bars here in San Antonio. I was talking with the bartender at one of those tonight and heard Babcock was re-opened
(tonight?) and had been remodeled. I admit I haven't been there yet (will be going this weekend or next probably), but since the last review was from 2007 thought I'd point out a potential change for the better. As long as a cool crowd goes on a regular basis, I bet this place can become a great place for those in that area. (I'm on the other side of town myself, but will likely head that direction from time to time.)

Down hill. This place used to be pretty cool. I was a very frequent customer here 2 years ago, and slowly went less and less. The bartenders were always great, but the clientel just started to take a dive. It started with a good mixed crowd then it went to completely Prep with " popped collars", then mixed again. I dont make it back for a few months and all of a sudden, the whole bar is attracting shady characters. The doormen do a good job of watching for them or even kicking them out when needed. But this was never an issue till december 06 when it all started. This problem is still on going. Other than that, they have live bands on occasion, a nice long bar helps you to get your drink quicker and they actually have clean-ish bathrooms.…
I go for the bartenders. Babcock Bar is a great place to meet with your friends after work. Everyone there becomes family.
