Good food, friendly people.
I read the reviews, and so I had a head-start.
First of all, we sat at the bar to order drinks and food. There was no waitress for the restaurant part, so this worked well. The food itself was good. The drinks were good, and the bartenders were friendly and took care of us. They did try to wait on the tables in between slow times at the bar, but they were just too busy to to it much. One more person to wait on tables would make a BIG difference here.
The place was hard to find--they need a bigger sign or at least a more colorful sign to catch your attention as you go by.
The band was friendly and worked the crowd. The people we met there introduced us to other people and tried to make us feel at home.
It was a fun time.
BAD BAD BAD. At this bar you will get screwed but you won't be having sex!.. BEWARE OF BLACK BOARD SPECIALS- the priced advertised IS NOT WHAT YOU GET CHARGED- WATCH YOUR TAB - we ordered the same beer all night (ran a tab - another big mistake) sometimes we were charged 2.50 and sometimes we were charge $3 FOR THE SAME BRAND BEER - no beer specials or happy hour prices. LAURA the bartender (she is the over-charger as well) would wait on everyone around us even when they walked up AFTER US. BOTTOM LINE IS THIS. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET RIPPED OFF THEN GO ELSEWHERE....
Not worth it!!!!.
Food was good but service terrible! We waited forever for someone to come and greet us and then even longer for someone to take our food order. We ordered a chicken sandwich and chicken fingers and it took almost an hour for our food to come out. More than 30 minutes just for a side salad. We inquired with the waitress who did not apologize and only said that the kitchen was backed up. People around us that ordered after us had gotten their food. Despite stating when we ordered that we wanted separate checks, the entire tab was put on one person's credit card. When I complained about no separate checks after asking for them, the waitress saw that I did not plan to leave a tip, and actually had the nerve to ask if I was really not going to leave a tip! Completely uncalled for and so inappropriate! Food is good but not worth the hassle!
On top of all of this, the person in our party who ordered the chicken sandwich was actually asked, "how do you want your chicken done?" by the waitress! It concerns me that a waitress has no idea about the the dangers of undercooked poultry!
Best Wings in San Antonio. I have been eating wings for a long time and just switched after 10 years To Charlie Browns Neighborhood Bar and Grill, My sons Brother in law and wife have been clients there for years and recommended it. I went there with my son have some COLD Beer and ordered, the Most Juicy Plump wings arrived at our table and Stacy and Chris came over personally and delivered them. The next time I ordered I took them to my Bride of 47 years, she said these are GREAT. Outstanding Taste, Alot of Wing and REASONABLE! I give it the the max 5 STARS. Thankyou Chris and Stacy we will take em to our 10 Grandchildren and family!!!
Before I review Charlie Brown's Neighborhood Bar & Grill, I should admit that I generally don't like going to bars. In fact, I don't particularly like drinking, which seems to main reason to frequent bars, so I only usually go when talked into it (or coerced) by my frends.
My 3 friends and I ordered 14 drinks of Shiner Bach and Lone Star Beer (about 3 drinks per person; 2 baskets of mozzarella sticks with marina sauce. (They were okay, but not great, not even as good as the ones I ate daily at my high school.) However, the fries were quite good. We ended up eating the free midnight breakast the bar offered (chorizo and egg tortillas). They weren't great, either, but they did help fill our stomachs, which were already digesting the alcohol. (Undoubtedly, this was the bar's aim.) One my friends, the who suggested Charlie Brown's, raved about the burgers served there. Unfortunately, I did not take him up on his suggestion. Still, I have a feeling that were it not for the company that evening (3 middle school buddies reconnecting after the recent loss of a classmate), I wouldn't have enjoyed the evening in the least
Bars like Charlie Brown's seem to be a dying breed, being gradually supplanted by sports bars and hot wing restaurants. Honestly, I wouldn't be particularly distraught at their loss, but I do understand that some people really do prefer bars where the bar is the focus (and not the cover band, and not even the billiards table). To them I would only say, "If you really want that kind of a bar, there are better ones."
Charlie Brown's claims to be a "Neighborhood Bar & Grill," and it definitely makes good on its claim to serve patrons from the surrounding neighborhood. But it seems like somewhat confused in calling itself a bar & grill. Although it has certain elements of each, such as the prominent bar, the billiards table, and the lounge area for the nightly cover bands, Charlie Brown's fails at integrating them: The partitions among the lounge, the bar, and the billiards table are arbitrary, and the outside patio (where my friends and I sat) is unnecessarily isolated. In other words, the disjointed setup makes it hard to transition from one area to the next. (Of course, this may only be an issue if you're there to meet people, which we were not.)
Reviewing Adam Sandler's comedy, "Grown Ups," film critic Mike Lippert observed that "[t]here's nothing particularly wrong with [it except] that there's nothing particularly right with it either." I would say the same about Charlie Brown's.
"I Love this Bar"...NOT!. This used to be my favorite neighborhood bar. Not any more. The food is no longer special but just regular "fried" bar food. But the biggest disappointment is the drink prices are not the same for everyone...some people drink for less than others. Still get a good pour but you very well may be paying more than the guy sitting next to you. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
Unfortunately the bar has gone downhill.......
This bar used to be fun. All types of people let loose, had fun and enjoyed themselves. Bands that played were really good. The food is still good.
I don't know what happened, but it appears alot of low-life types are frequenting CB's and have been the last few/several months or so.
Very sad, because CB's near my residence.........
I'm really sorry you had a bad experience and hope you will give us another chance.
The staff at Charlie Brown's
Strongest pour in town.
Hey my friends, as a seasoned drunkard I have seen my fair share of bars and I must say that this one (so far) sits atop my list of what many would consider "dive bars".
Food: Let me get this out of the way.. yes, the food at CB's is outstanding; not outstanding "for a dive bar" but outstanding for any restaurant. I would put the chef at CB's up against any of the $50 a plate chefs downtown and be confident that in terms of food quality, originality, and presentation he would come out equal or better. (disclaimer: if you go here to eat don't expect presentation to be outstanding all the time. This is a bar folks. The chef there happens to cater too and that's where he can shine)
Drinks: I'm gonna have to rip off the words of the great drunkards at Modern Drunkard Magazine (thank you Alan Owl for creating such a masterful turn of phrase) and apply them here.. Charlie Brown's is the strongest pour in town, hands down, clown. I don?t mean kindasortasomewhat strong or half-a-shot more strong, I mean SEASONED IN THE SOUSE, MAN-SIZE strong! Tonic for color, dig? Pink elephants on a ten dollar bill all the way. Go there, get stupid-cocktailed, and tell ?em SgtCody sent ya.
