The Scene
White mesh curtains reminiscent of mosquito netting divide the big mahogany booths at this cheerful California Avenue restaurant. Inventive light fixtures and pastel walls lend the space a comfortable, living room-esque feel, while the dramatic backlit bar adds some flair. A local family crowd in jeans and fleece vests comes in for the food and the atmosphere--the bistro makes nice night out without seeming stuffy.
The Food
With a concentration on local, seasonal and organic, the menu has a lineup of simple yet flavorful dishes. Try the ahi tuna appetizer--medium rare pepper-crusted ahi on a bed of calamari and mushrooms smothered in citrus white wine sauce. Main courses include pan-fried chicken, finished with a sweet honey chili glaze, and the rich, oily grilled ono fish steak served on savory polenta squares. A slice of the not-overly-sweet mascarpone cheesecake finishes the meal.

This is the new IT spot for casual dining! It's fun, it's more spacious than most, it's organic, seasonal, local. It's all American favorites done right! The staff engage with customers appropriately. The patrons are friendly folk. I personally found the bar to be less than accommodating or creative initially, but I think they may have stepped up their game back there. Anyway, the food is great. Parking is a little chancy
Pros: Comfortable, cozy spaces where you don't feel assaulted by your neighbor's table talk
Cons: I'd expand the bar service more creatively if it was up to me

My girlfriend and I had dinner here on Wednesday and it was fabulous. She had the Blue Cheese Chicken Roulade and I chose the ravioli. Her chicken was perfectly cooked and was served with really interesting but tasty mashed potatoes. My ravioli was good but nothing compared to the kale and other greens served on the side - delicious. Even our house salads were perfect with incredibly fresh ingredients. The atmosphere was warm and the service outstanding. I can't wait to go back.
