Fantastic food and service. I go to Madras Pavillion often, and I take guests. It is clean and has good atmosphere. The service has always been excellent (I'm surprised to see the negative service review! That has never been my experience.) My parents have studied culenary arts in India and I'm used to great Indian food- I think the food at MP is very good. I don't usually eat from the buffet, as I just don't like buffets in general, but the one time I tried it, it was good. I like the dhosas. I LOVE the samosas- I've taken them to parties and fundraisers and they always get compliments and disappear as fast as I can put them up.

I really think they do an excellent job.

Worst Indian food I've ever eaten. Chicken Tikka had chicken that was hard throughout, curries tasted like they were from an instant pouch. There was a cauliflower dish that was fried and sickeningly sweet, sort of like bad Chinese food. The curries also seemed to be thickened with cornstarch. The dosa was passable, but still the worst dosa I've had. Also, chapatis were cold and chewy.

Horrible Customer Service. Watch out guys...this Indian restaurant!!! horrible service for customers.Management is worst. They need some training how to talk with customer.First time went Indian Restaurant 2 months back and manager suggested and ordered puri (puffed bread) it was in color yellow and some black spots on that. It looks over fried in oil. I hate the food he given. The person i talked is horrible guy..He is having attitude problem.Think about this....I don't recommend this restaurant .

One of the better Indian restaurant in SA. I have been to pretty much all the Indian restaurants in SA and this one is the best in terms of food. The food is little spicier compared to the other places but it is more authentic. Most of the Indian restaurants in US have americanized the food so people are used to less spicy/creamy versions. They have good selection of South Indian food as well as Veg options. I found that there Veg food is much better than the non-veg. Try the lunch buffet which will give you a better idea of the food. I would recommend there Dosa's they have a huge selection.

Food laced with baking soda. Watch it folks, one of the worst Indian restaurants I have been to. I have had food here 5 times in 18 months thinking the last experience may have been a fluke. But they are very consistant in providing food that you will hardly eat. The food tastes real good, but thats where everything stops. The food is laced with baking soda so that when you eat some you feel so bloated and drink so much water. later in the day you feel sick in the stomach. I have had ala-carte for dinner once which was not as bad. But be careful to order food that may not be part of the the day buffet. Never again will I go there.

Big disappointment!. My wife and I have lived in India and we've lived in cities with several varieties and choices of Indian restaurants; and feel we know a little about good Indian cuisine. Being relatively new to San Antonio, we've tried out and have found our regular Indian restaurants. We were excited when the Madras Pavillion opened. Our visit was pleasant - the food was tasty. Although a little spicy (hot spice) for my wife, she enjoyed the masala dosas. She is vegetarian and is picky about how the vegetarian dishes are presented in the buffet. She is also very picky about the chai tea. We developed a nice relationship with the manager.

We decided to try the Sunday buffet this past weekend. How much has changed - new management, cooks, and staff. The food was tasteless. Overly salty. Flys were swarming around the buffet, and the servers were doing nothing about it. The chai tasted like it was reheated from an older brew. The tandori chicken was like mush - tasteless and not even hot from the buffet table. The waitress seemed to know nothing about Indian cuisine. All she could say was that she was sorry. There was a party going on in the adjoining room, who seemed to have their own problems with getting service. I noticed the food servers scratching their heads then touching plates, glasses and other utensils, and handling food items - with their bare hands. Disgusting! We spoke to the manager, who acknowledged the food was salty. He said the cook was new. The food was horrible. We couldn't finish it. The manager apologized and gave us a 10% discount because we weren't satisfied (bigt deal). He did tell us about how great their vegetarian restaurant is in Houston. Of course we won't even bother to go to another Madras Pavillion of this chain - no matter what city. I would never recomend this restaurant - and will inform others of my experience and disappointment.

Great Indian food in a nice clean restaurant.. I was a little worried when I read the other reviews. Fortunately, I like to make up my own mind. I went today with my son. We had the dinner for two. We loved every course. It was just as good as any other Indian food I have been served in San Antonio and MUCH better than anything I've had in either of the Fredericksburg Road restaurants. In fact, I had to wonder if maybe the bad reviews didn't come from the competition. Madras Pavillion is in the old Fratellis site. They remodeled it, cleaned it, and furnished it very nicely. Give it a try. You will love it.
