i spent 3 months at this center when i was 16-17 years old i spent christmas there as well as my 17th birthday, it was quite an experience. I am not gonna say it was awesome and i would love to go back, but i did get alot of help. No the food was not the best and we did not always get the best treatment, but i mean u cant expect luxurious treatment for a bunch of teen delinquents! We were all there for a reason some worse than others but we all had a choice to make it for the better or the worse. while i was inpatient there i made my status and went on many outings and attended all the extracurricular activities because i decided to behave and get better in my treatment not digress.....there fore i learned alot. Yeah i seen alot of wrong doing but i CHOSE not to be a part of it....its all about choice, if u work the program it will work for you. I truly do believe TATC works. There were some bad staff members as well as many good ones who wanted to help us do better. I made the most of my experience and i am now living my life to the fullest despite my behaviorial disabilites. No child wants to be there but it does help. As far as physical abuse no i never witnessed it, except for from the children. Like i said u got to want to get better in order for a place like TATC to work. I do reccommend it for serious cases.

Pros: activities available, program, staff

Cons: food, sanitary conditions, living arrangements

Hello everyone I would just like to take a moment to inform you that Texas Adolescent Treatment Center or T.A.T.C(pronounced tack) as many residents and staff refer to it, IS indeed a horrible place I was admitted there about two and a half years ago at the age of 17. it was my first and last time being in a so called lock down facility and i still have nightmares about my experience there. Aside from the less than desirable food, and the less than perfect sanitary practices such as sharing towels that should have been washed in hot water and bleach or at least bleach instead of Vo5 shampoo, but I guess that was just a form of punishment there. There was also gross mistreatment of residents and authority was being over abused i felt trapped for the for months i was there and I know many people think that oh these kids say these things because they are bad and they hated that place because they were tough on them and that they were just resentful after being made to follow the rules., and I say, say what you must but i have not forgotten the mistreatment I suffered the humiliation, the physical and verbal abuse, and the many of staff who sat by and did nothing they couldn't take it so they just left but they told no one of it I guess they figure if I can't see it then its not my problem but it is the exact opposite you saw it so you are every bit as responsible as the people that are doing it you see if this wasn't the truth I would have been moved on with my life i am now married with a life of my own and a brand new son and I am up to great things and i owe this all to boys and girls town for rebuilding me but you see I can't move on not while this place continually gets worst and children are still getting hurt thats not why they are there it is supposed to be a safe place of structure to reconstruct ones disruptive way of life but its not so what are we going to do or don't you care?
