Interesting Concept In Theory Not In Practice. I had heard about this place for a while, but never got around to trying it. I had been wanting to invite my best friend Lauren and her new husband, and because I was in the neighborhood, decided to try it out on my own first. I am so glad I did, because I would not want to subject my newlywed friends to this. I noticed that some of these reviews go as far back as 2008, and apparently nothing much has been updated in Huhot, including the dinner plates. The plates that I was eating off of were all chipped. The hood above the communal grill was dripping, literally dripping with grease. The layout of the place is extremely awkward, beginning with the "chute" that you walk through as you enter the door. Unlike Firewok where you also choose your own ingredients but the food is brought to you, Huhot has you stand and wait in line while your dish is cooked on a huge round metal grill with a hole in the middle for drippings and scrapings. After each person is served, the chef or whatever squirts water on the grill and scrapes it in order to clean it. Sometimes the next person's dish will mingle with the one before, and you might get a raw piece of chicken along with your beef and broccoli, as one woman had happen to her when I was there. Also, people with allergies have be very careful, as a man who was next me asked that his dish be tossed because it touched the shrimp dish next to it. He was severely allergic to shrimp he said, even if he touched it. It was odd however that he should risk having his pork and beef cooked on the same grill. One thing about these make your own dish restaurants is that a person might not know what sauce to mix with what meat and what vegetable, but if you as for little recipe cards they will give them to you. They have around 80-100 business card sized recipes that people have contributed over the years, and they are rated best of, or grand prize. For vegetarians this is a good place I suppose. Personally I won't be going back there, and I certainly wouldn't recommend this to anybody.
Very good food. Went to HuHot for the first time and the experience was very different. You pick out your own food that you wish to have cooked. Food was good and the waitstaff was friendly will go back when in town.
huhot is a must.

Food Sensitivities? Stay Away!!.
If you have gluten, lactose, fructose or any known food sensitivity, don't believe the HuHot website and go to this place. While the host is pleasant and accomodating, they cannot answer any questions about the actual ingredients in any of their sauces and you will be told to "Go to the website and send in your comments". A lot of good that does while you are seated trying to order or decide what you are going to eat. We left as I decided it was not safe for me to eat there.
Go elsewhere, like TinStar Tacos on Callaghan where they know exactly what is in their food and will try to adapt the food to you.
Delicious!. Huhot is a lot of fun and very tasty. I've never been to a Mongolian grill before, but we're definitely going to put this into rotation. You pick your own meat and veggies and sauces and then watch as someone cooks it for you on a giant grill. I definitely recommend it. But put twice as much sause on as the board says too.
Easy to become a regular!. Huhot is a great place to suit many different cravings. The method to the madness is most definitely keeping the amount of food on the plate manageable to leave room for many trips to the grill changing flavors from the bountiful seafood, meat and poultry selections to the various sauces with multiple house guidelines to tweak to your various likings. Make sure to go early in the evening or a little while after the dinner rush to ensure quick service in the cooking of your custom made hot meal. The service is somewhat sub-par at the table; however, the lack of need for a server, as this is a buffet, leave little to be desired as long as your drink is always full when you return from the grill with your piping hot plate of cooked meats and vegetables. Also, there is always a reasonable alcoholic drink special to enjoy with the spice and flavor of Huhot.
