Editorial Review for The Red House – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Designed by Austin's ubiquitous retro designer Joel Mozersky, the bar's interior feels like a late 1960s suburban ranch house. The bar itself is located immediately behind Stortini and shares its patio with the Italian restaurant. Wait-listed diners from the restaurant and casual drinkers relax amid the western kitsch at tables, at the bar or outside. Southwestern style burgers, sandwiches and salads are served up with no fuss.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoYou can reach the bar by passing through the restaurant up front, or through the side door facing Poquito Street.
The ExtrasThe adjacent Stortini was formerly El Gringo, but much of that restaurant's menu is still served here.

although the mojito's are good & the bartender at the lounge is fantastic... the food stinks. some of my friends & i felt like trying out the new menu & went for a few appetizers, the eggplant caponata & roasted beets with feta. the beets were NOT roasted, in fact they tasted very similar to a CANNED beet hiding in strong balsamic with the smallest amount of nasty cow feta (buy some fresh local feta yo!) & the caponata with tasteless giant pimento stuffed olives (what??) & to top it off the hidden valley vinaigrette. YUCK!! we never ended up ordering dinner, mostly cause the service was wicked snotty. you guys need to take advantage of that beautiful space & get some quality ingredients in your patrons mouths & a staff that cares about service. DO IT, it would fun for you.

I wanted so much for the red house to be great. i have been there like 5 times and every time I say "never again!" . Either because of the service or the tab at the end of the night, usually both, but friends keep pulling me back. But after tonight it is for real. Never again. First off the drinks are over priced and not worth it. Get a good bartender. the michelada(sp?) was undrinkable. The service is so terrible everytime ,I thought it was personal a few times. i mean terrible! they think they are too hip and act too bored to serve you . that is their job. Come to think of it , everytime we are there we feel invisible. And we are their peers no less, we have hair dos too. Except for one time when we had the most friendly bartender,I don't know his name but he has very short hair and glasses. I could not believe the rudness of the bartender tonight ,though. i know that none of the 10 people i was with tipped her . she was stuck up, rolling eyed, and didn't care. I asked if there was a minimum to charge and was told it was a two drink. but later I had to leave in a rush to help a friend. well most humans are understanding and i am sure this has happened before there, but I was talked down to like a child. TALKED DOWN TO in a nasty tone by some girl younger than me! Yet the guy next to me had just opened and closed his tab with one drink.I was speechless as my friend kindly paid my tab for the gross michelada(sp) that i didn't drink and left. Smoke started coming out of my ears on the way out and I have plenty to say to that girl now, when it doesn't count.(isn't it always that way?) Too Bad , the place is close to my house and i like the patio alot. I have not heard any good feedback about this place and i hope the owners hire some people for their good service skills not their good hair.
Pros: close to the house
Cons: trying to be upscale, rude waitstaff, bad service
