Justice for my Son Noah!!.
My family had our first encounter with Mr. Talamantez and the center in September 2011. We were looking for something to give our son for his birthday. He was super excited to join and be apart of something. My husband & I couldn't resist. We had him do a try out class. After that we spoke with our son about joining and committing himself to the classes. He promised us he was ready and we joined. We paid $900 approx. (I think it was closer to $1,000.00) upfront for classes twice a week for 30 minutes good through April 2012. We bought the bag $75.00; I think his "white uniform" was given to us. I can't remember, it all was starting to become a blur on how much we were actually spending to see our son happy! So as September went on, we were elated to see our son so enthused by his new found hobby. Within the 1st month, the 2nd week of class. Mr. Talamantez was really praising Noah for all his hard work. Noah was leaving class with a sticker that said "Future Black Belt Leader” After a month of continued praise and constant stickers, my son started to ask. When will I be able to stay to do what the other kids are doing? He participated as a white belt along with children of his own age bracket that were wearing a blue uniform with different levels of belts. So as you can image, a month in. Noah wanted to become "a future black belt leader!" Mr. Talamantez told us Noah is ready to be a future black belt. We thought isn't that what he is doing though? We didn't know to do what the other kids were doing and to stay a total 45 minutes, and purchase the blue uniform and get the breaking boards, punching boards, gloves was going to require us to sign a 3 year contract. So we said if you think he is ready to receive his yellow belt after a month, Mr. Talamantez ok great. But it is going to cost you $35 for the belt. "Oh ok", then after that, within the month of October it was every class. Mr. Talamantez was pressuring Noah, telling him, to tell us he is ready and wants to be apart of the "Future Black Belts", it become enough. I felt like I was a walking checkbook! I didn't know how to break the news to my son that a karate belt shouldn't be purchased, it should be earned. Still my husband wasn't convinced that it was a sales tactic. So the month of October, my husband started attending every class. That was when he saw for himself. We were being pressured to sign a contract, or pay nearly $3500.00 for him to be apart of the "Future Black Belts" were he gets his blue uniform and supplies and gets to stay an extra 15 minutes. We don't know how it happened but next thing we know, we were sitting in his office trying to make sense of what was happening. What Mr. Talamantez was asking of us? Mr. Talamantez's assistant was trying to show Noah the blue uniform and telling him doesn't he just want to try it on. Mommy & Daddy and Mr. Talamantez need to talk. I flat our refused and said ok what you are saying is.... I repeated all that I took to be what they were laying out in front of us. A contract for karate classes with fine print that stated if he missed too many classes he could be dropped, but we would still be responsible for the remaining balance. There was also something about if we didn't meet our required monthly payments they could demand the whole amount, it went on to talk about collect. I felt as though we were making a major purchase. Needless to say I walked out of the there dazed & confused. Struggling with whether my son would understand. Eventually we talked it out Noah. He has been so bummed by how things turned out. We didn't go back. Noah didn't finish his classes, he didn't want to return. So for my son I plan to create a petition asking for Mr. Talamantez to cease using contracts & high pressure sales tactics.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

THANK YOU FOR ACCOMMODATING FOR HIS SPECIAL NEEDS.
Alex,
I wanted to tell you a few things we have observed in Aiden's first few classes with you:
- He is extremely happy to be there (wanting to be there is half the battle!).
- Your teaching style is really great for all the kids, but especially for a student like Aiden. You are using techniques that many educators go to school for years to learn!
-Aidan stands a little bit taller and a little taller bit straighter as a result of being so proud to be there. Your positive and reinforcing teaching style is very confidence.
Aiden has come a long way from exclusively participating in Special Olympics to your karate school. We are so proud of him, but know that he will not be successful without a teacherlike you who is supportive, gentle, fun, encouraging, and always positive. He will have challenges that others do not, and will struggle to remember sequences of moves and proper execution of kicks, blocks, and punches, but,you will not meet a kiddo that works harder than he to maintain and keep up.
I just wanted to tell you thank you, from both my husband and myself, for accepting him, allowing him to participate, and accommodating his speical needs. I truly believe that he will be better and stronger for having joined Talamantez FamilyKarate School.
Please feel free to share this with your parents who are considering placing their childern with you.
Thank you again. You are making a difference in my child's life.

Love These Workouts!.
To whom it may concern,
My son had been in spports for years and all of a sudden quit everything. He lost focus in school and grades steadily declined. I recalled attending Talamantez Academy when I was younger and remeber the positive influence they had on me. For years, I've wanted to go back but just haven't made the time to drop by.With my son doing so poorly, I figured ...this would be good for the both of us. He wasn't entirely thrilled about the idea , so I simply asked for him to give it a chance. We picked a day and dropped by. I was surprised to see that they remembered me, despite the length of time that had past. We all caught up and caught the next class. Needless to say, my son LOVED it. We both signed up and have been steadily attending for 5months. I feel great and my son has gotten his focus back.
The discipline within your classes were exactly What my son needed and the Mrs. certainly doesn't mind the few pounds I've already lost. Thanks to your workouts. Again, Thank you everyone at Talamantez FamilyKarate!

Amazing Experience.
To whom it may concern,
I'd like to take the time to Thank Talamantez FamilyKarate an dtheir staff for an amazing job in showing my daughter how to have self-esteem, leadership and discipline through karate. I feel my daughter Elizabeth has become the person she would like to be by coming out of her shell and showing that she can be a leader and not a followerand with the he...lp of Mr. Talamantez she has been able to do that. I've seen such a big change in her that thiswas the best thing that I could've done for her. I felt karate was for boys but, when we saw a demonstration of their XMA Team, my daughter and I were like "WOW!!" At that point, I took the time to make an appt for my daughter and I to visit with the Staff and see what karate was all about. It has now been 3yrs since Elizabeth has been with Talamantez Karate and still going strong. Elizabeth has no intentions of giving up the possibility of giving her full potential and with the help of Mr. Talamantez and his staff, I know that can happen. Karate has been a Great Experience for her and will continue to teach her life lessons.
Thanks Talalmantez Karate for the great work you've done with Elizabeth.
Sincerely,
Linda
We Recommend This Karate School to EVERYONE!.
Master Talamantez,
Elizabeth and I wanted to Thank You for all that Talamantez Karate has done for our son Alex. He began training with you over five years ago at the Encino Park Community Center. He was only 4 years old at the time and full of energy. We have always appreciated the time you took with Alex and the other childern to instill Qualities that are sometimes lacking in our society today (respect of your Elders, Self Confidence and the Ability of Visualization to Accomplish Great Things Throughout Life). Alex moved to the Bulverde School when it opened and began training with your son Alex Talamantez (Mister T to Us).
Over the years, We have seen our son grow not only in karate skills, but also in his life skills as Well. One of the Best examples, I can remember is from the Encino Park Halloween Festival a couple of yers ago. Mister T took Alex and some of the other students to perform and as a part of the performance they broke boards. It took Alex a couple of attempts to break his board, but he did. Afterward, Mister T interviewed each student on their performance. When he got to Alex and asked him about breaking the board, Alex took the microphone and began addressing the audience on the importance of continuing to try to reach your goals " if you don't succeed the first time... Keep trying and never give up." I was amazed that an 8 year-old child could speak to a group of 20-30 people with no fear. Another example of this was at a Graduation at the Bandera School in 2009. Alex talked to the students and parents about his struggle to break a brick during his 3rd degree black belt test and how he kept trying and eventually succeeded.
We are so pleased that Alex has been involved with Talamantez Karate and the things he has learned from yourself and Mister T. We believe that he thinks of both of you as Family and I know we do also. It is rewarding to watch our son begin to teach other young students as they first begin their journey to becoming a black belt. It is also exciting to hear Alex talk about wanting to continue on with his karate and become an instructor like yourself and Mister T. Recently, we have seen some negative things written about Talamantez Karate Online and WE FELT THE NEED TO WRITE THIS LETTER TO SHARE OUR EXPERIENCE OF ALMOST SIX YEARS WITH YOUR SCHOOL. The JOURNEY Alex has taken while becoming a BLACK BELT has been an INVESTMENT OF BOTH TIME AND MONEY. But, WE BELIEVE IT IS AN INVESTMENT THAT WILL REWARD HIM THROUGHOUT HIS LIFETIME. WE HAVE RECOMMENDED THE SCHOOL TO EVERYONE WE KNOW AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE TIME AND EFFORT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HAS PUT INTO BUILDING TALAMANTEZ KARATE.
Sincerely,
Andy and Elizabeth Apple

Karate. I enrolled my daughter in a 6 mo program and went back to put her in the leadership class a month later and was told I had to sign for the additional $50 automatic payment to be withdrew. I agreed to this and was told recently that Mr Talamantez actually had a 36 month contract some how attached to this and never told me. As we continued we noticed the same hi pressure tactics being put on us and others and we were required to pay $50+ for equipment almost weekly with $70+ for belt ceremonies. This was draining us financially. It started to add up and we started to see customers being locked out, yelled at and them yelling back over dues and contract details. We reailzed that had to take my daughter out....she wasnt enjoying it and this wasn't the karate experience that we wanted for my child. She wasn't learning anything and the hi pressure sales tactics were horrible. This place is a big rip off. This is the biggest regret financially that i have ever done. When we decided to leave which was over the original 6 mo contract timeframe we were then told that we had this 36 month contract from when I signed up for that auto pay. For the first time in my life I am going to have something on my credit. I can't believe someone would do this to a family and be able to sleep at night. . I saw them at my childrens school handing out fliers I just pray this doesn't happen to anyone else, but according to the blogs everywhere it looks like its been happenning for years. I am going to contact the BBB too. I know its already done to me, but let's help others not have to go through this.
