Editorial Review for Chanhassen Dinner Theatres – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
From the outside it looks like an upscale supper club. The repertoire is usually old-fashioned and song-filled: Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart or Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, all of the best of old Broadway. Besides the Main Dinner Theatre, where you're seated at a table or booth, the complex has three smaller stages. The Fireside is an intimate playhouse; the Playhouse is a cabaret for smaller productions; and the Club is used for short-term shows.

I went to the Chanhassen dinner theatre last night and had a fairly unpleasant experience. The staff was so incredibly rude, it was unbelievable. The entire staff was literally grumpy old women who treated guests like absolute garbage. During dinner, our server kept trying to take our plates WHILE WE WERE STILL EATING! She kept coming by and wouldn't even ask, she would go to grab our plates and we would be mid-meal with food in our mouth. When we told her that we weren't finished yet, she rolled her eyes, stormed off, then would return a minute later and try and grab them again. It was very strange. The performance was okay, the actors clearly know what they are doing and that was nice to watch. The food is not very good and tastes like cafeteria food. I will not be returning to the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre ever again. It's way over-priced for the bad customer service and food that you receive. You are much better off going to see a good movie.

Pros: The only pro was leaving

Cons: Terrible customer service and food

We saw an outstanding show over a mediocre dinner. Our party experienced a problem created by another guest and the management was unprepared to address the issue.

Pros: Great show, Good first impression

Cons: Weak management, Limited parking
