I lived at this apartment for about 2 years. Like most places, this complex has its ups and downs.
No gates= multiple notices (at least 8 within two years) with warning of 1 burglary and several vehicle break-ins. These would be posted for every resident (per policy) for a "heads-up." This place could use some added security measures.
If you have neighbors that party (mine above me did), you will be up with them. The walls are thin so that you can hear moderately loud music very easily. Noise was a huge issue at least every other weekend, some weeknights.
Staff mostly nice. Always pleased with maintenance personnel- quick to respond to requests and notify you when they were complete in a timely manner.
Now, moving out- this is a different story. This place requires at LEAST a 60 day notice to move out. (State of Texas requires 30, but this place has different policies). My job had been eliminated without much notice (definitely not 60 days) and because I hadn't planned on moving out, I was going to renew my lease. But I didn't renew it within 60 days, thankfully, because I was going to leave the city for a new position. I was forced to pay a "prorated" amount for 1/2 month because of their 2 month notice policy, (which the amount was about $450). They will not work with you, regardless of your situation if you do not give a 60 day notice.
I then receive an e-mail from the asst manager a week later telling me I owed an additional balance of almost $200! I adamantly explain that she was wrong, as I paid the prorated amount and no additional fees were owed to them. She then writes me back to tell me she "checks my ledger and I am correct." I also have NOT received my pet deposit back (which in an email I was told I would receive, no questions asked).
So essentially, from my perspective, they do not financially know what's going on and will try and screw you out of your money with moving out. I would not recommend this place, even if you had little options. I have lived in 4 complexes and this is hands-down the worst experience that I have encountered.
Been here for a while now. The staff is always nice and the maintenance is prompt. Never had any problems and both pools are always clean. I like my place.
Do not move here!! – Nightmare from the beginning. We did a walk through of the apartment and decided we would go for it. I saw some problems with it at first but thought they would do a walk through before we moved in so I didn't say anything.
On move in day we signed the lease and went to the apartment to do a walk through and note anything wrong with the place. As my husband and I filled out the check-in sheet we could not believe the state of this apartment.
- the shades for the balcony were on backwards
- urine stains around toilet
- extremely dirty kitchen floor
- water leak stain on ceiling
- staples and screws on balcony, around fire place and in living room
- urine smell coming from A/C unit (found out they had not changed the filter)
- soda splatter on wall
- windows had not been cleaned
- shower/tub are in bad condition
I brought these issues to the leasing agent who said these things would be taken care of. She had even lied to us saying that corporate had even seen the apartment and approved of it. I don't know any corporate employee that would have approved of the rickety stairs well leading the apartment let alone the apartment itself. A couple days went by and nothing. Called and called and went to the office again and she said maybe next week. So I waited a week and a half and finally got fed up and sent an email to the regional manager.
The next day maintenance was here cleaning and taking care of the mess that they should have taken care of before we moved.
We are still finding more and more issues with this apartment. There was a funny smell coming from our hallway. (i would have to leave all the windows open during the day because it was that bad) Maintenance came through and found out that repairs needed to be done to the unit. when the maintenance man pulled away at some material what looked like rat poop fell all over the carpet. (which I had to vacuum up)
Just today they had to come fix our fridge because that door seal was not hitting the edges of the fridge so the light was staying on. Maintenance barely touched it and said I've just gotta slam it harder. After he did that I went to my bedroom came out and found my front door wide open and they had plugged their lamp into one of my outlets!!! I can't believe this place. I unplugged it and the maintenance guy said "oh it's just $.25!!" Wow I can't believe this place. I wish we hadn't signed this damn lease!! I've been upset that my husband and I are fighting about living here.
This place is a mistake!!! Move any where but here.
Its alll a joke. – I would've given it less than a one star if I could, but I didn't have much of a choice cause that's the lowest. This place is a JOKE! My boyfriend and I moved into The Abbey from Boerne, Tx. In November of 2010. We signed a 13 month lease. At first when we first got here we were happy with the service, and the over-all satisfaction of the apartment. It was very decent for a low price. Well up until about 3 months ago we were happy here.
My boyfriend and I discussed just staying at the complex because we haven't experienced any problems and didn't want to move again. So, we went to the office and asked if we could possibly upgrade to a 2 bedroom apartment. Which means giving them more money for rent. So you'd think the fact that you tendants want to stay with you, you'd work with them to make them happy since they're extending their stay. Well...NOPE! If we had wanted to upgrade then we would've had to repay the pet deposit, and all the fee's we paid when we first moved in plus transfering fee's etc. But if we waited until December when our lease was up then we'd still have to repay everything. So it was a lose lose situation. We changed our mind.
Well that leads to my next complaint, after we decided that..our air conditioning was starting to not work...DURING THE SUMMER! We filed a maintenence report with the office, and the guy came by that day. He went outside and replaced the anti-freezing liquid. We keep our thermastat at 70 usually because the AC has no power behind it and runs very weakily. Yet the temperature on the thermastadt reads 80.So we're paying for our apartment to be 70 degree's when in reality its 80 if not hire. WELL, the AC acted up yet again! So a different guy comes out this time, and messes with it tells me its frozen over. Comes back the next day to check on it after it thawed, he tells me not to turn it down so 70 because its unneccesary and that's why it doesn't work. I'm sorry, but if I want my apartment a decent temperature, and I'm paying for it...I should have it. So he proceeds to turn it up to 76 degrees, I was sweating! AC has yet to really be fixed.
Next complaint, you know when you go into an apartment complex and the staff knows their tendats? Well...say goodbye to that! You're just a file. They can call you to get money out of you act like they know who you are, but you call them back one minute later tell them your name and apartment number...they respond with "who? Hold on let me pull your file apartment number 1111." You are nothing more to them than a file and money symbols walking around. The rest of my complaints: The sink is constantly messed up, the toilet moves, there is a giant water residue stain on the ceiling over my bathtub, paint is falling of the walls, boyfriends truck was broken into, apartments are broken into, you hear car alarms going off about 3 times a day AT LEAST. One night I came home to 4 cop cars, a crime scene truck and a helicopter hoovering over my apartment building. You don't exactly feel safe here, regardless of how close you are to the hospital. People set of fire works for new years IN THE APARTMENT PARKING LOT. You wake up to a guy threatening to run his girlfriend over, you get your apartment bill in your mailbox late! Like the last day you can turn it in without a late fee.
Overall...staff doesn't care, they don't try to work with you, it isn't too safe, you can't feel comfortable leaving your car outside. It has been my worst experience at an apartment complex.
Nice Complex – I loved my apartment. The complex was rennovated a few years ago. The apartment was compact, but had all the features that I needed. including a full size washer and dryer, faux granite countertops, a ceiling fan in the bedroom, updated lighting fixtures, and built in shelves in the living room area.
