Great location. Breakfast decent but Looong waits

by Jag0715 at Citysearch

Quaint restaurant on property of Pioneer Flour Mill. Best biscuits in town! Longs waits for breakfast are a bit frustrating I love to bring out of town guests here for breakfast - during the week. Too busy on weekends

I was surprised that the food wasn't better. I really wanted to love this place. Went twice, wasn't impressed. Cool location.

Not on my 10 Best List!

by mustlovemydog at Citysearch

I dragged my boyfriend here for breakfast this morning, based on the 10best recommendation for breakfast. It was a cool house to visit, but there is truly no reason to eat there. $6 bought me plain biscuits and bland gravy. $7 bought my boyfriend one waffle (small size), which was sorta good. The soda and tea were strange--the soda tasted like it had no carbonation, despite being in a can. The tea was odd-tasting--bland to say the least. Marketed as 'iced' but there was mint or something in it. Didn't help the taste any! The best part about this restaurant is actually the gift shop.

I love this place. It is great for out of towners or just for a nice brunch for locals. The food is wonderful and prices are reasonable considering the ambiance/history. Highly recommened.

Great little place in the King William area

by bluerivertj at Citysearch

Looking for breakfast, brunch or lunch in the historic King William district? This is the place for you and your guest. The restaurant is located in the Poineer Mill Wing by the San Antonio River. The place is small, cute, it has an old time feel and cozy. The menu is limited, not a huge selection but what they have is scrumptious. The biscuit and gravy is huge, full of flavor, light and fluffy. The smoked applewood bacon is heaven: crispy, not salty and thick. The waffle and pancakes: yum. The house special coffee is delicious. Look to the blackboard at the door for the daily special. Get there early or be patient. As I said the place is small waiting time can be 30 - 45 minutes. They will hand you a pager for your wait, so you can spend this time browsing the muesum, shop or walking by the river watching the ducks. If the weather is permitting you can choose to eat out in the patio, it is great on a nice cool morning eating your breakfast watching the humming birds zoom by. The staff is friendly, the food served hot and your coffee cup is always filled. Visitors visting the King William area should finish their tour by having brunch here.

  • Pros: Beautiful scenery, good food, friendly staff, parking

overall a great place to go...

by pguerra at Citysearch

The Guenther House has a great ambiance, great long time servers, and never changing recipes.

I have been going to this restraunt since i was 15 i am now 23 i have gotten to know the staff very well and they provide the best service due to there circumstance. Thr house is very old so there is not very much space to work but the food will be excellent and hot with out a doubt. They dont and have never sold alcohol and the House is not handicap accessible "no two walls connect to add an elevator".

What to try: Biscuits and gravy "amazing and big' if too big try the 1/2 order

chicken salad sandwich has always been my favorite

and before you leave take a coffee cake or cinnamon roll with you they are to die for....

  • Pros: great food, great servers and atmosphere
  • Cons: parking

Wonderful food... Ridiculous lines!!

by txnewsgirl at Citysearch

We ended up taking the food to-go because the wait was an hour and 45 minutes! We decided to take the food across the street to a park bench. When we go back, we'll probably do that again. As for the food, it was yummy. The Bacon was really thick, and the Waffle with fresh cream and fresh berries was gone in seconds. If you have plenty of time on your hands... dine in. If not? Get it to-go!

This place has the best breakfast in San Antonio and is not to be missed!

by bfly01 at Citysearch

Even though it is a bit tricky to get to, this place has so much history in one place and the food was wonderful. The service went well beyond expectations and the prices where reasonable. Week days are just as busy as the weekend, so go early, before 9:am. We will be back!

  • Pros: Wonderful food and service
  • Cons: hard to find

For great home cooking, beats Cracker Barrel any day!

by dellis129 at Citysearch

Upon arrival we were told it might be a 35 minute wait. We went upstairs to walk around the "museum". There are only a few rooms available for viewing but it is a nice time-slice of the early 1900's. We only waited about 15 minutes before be seated. We ate breakfast in the kitchen area. It was very homey and warm. The biscuits are HUGE! The rest of the food was excellent and in large portions. The service was timely and unobtrusive. This a great place to have breakfast on a Satuday or Sunday morning. The lunch menu looks just as invitin and we plan to come back soon to try it out.

  • Pros: Excellent food, Service, Value for the $$$
  • Cons: Museum
