Wow, this place must cater to business conference suckers with big expense accounts. The prices are so outrageous for what you get that they're really comical! First, the menu is nearly all steak, so if you don't like steak, then you've got few options. The prices for these steaks are mostly in the $40 range. That of course, doesn't include anything. So a side of vegetables or potatoes is $8 - each! I was also very disappointed that they brought the wrong wine. I'm willing to pay the type of prices they charge here for someplace special - a place that has unique food that is well prepared. There is absolutely no value here.

Pros: Surefire way to exceed your expense account

Cons: Food, Value

Food and service was wonderful. It was a Monday evening and there were no problems with seating. Atmosphere was quiet and cozy. I didn’t have anything from the wine list.

Pros: Wonderful Food and Service

Cons: Price

My date - a know glutton, said that this was among the best filets he has ever eaten. Perfectly cooked, wonderful flavor, good service, tasty side dish, fresh appetizers, robust wine list (including by the glass). As for me, I also thoroughly enjoyed my perfectly appointed steak, tasty beefsteak tomato salad and well prepared martini. The chocolate cake was moist, and a well chosen compliment to our coffee at the end of the meal. Many thanks to the cab driver who recommended that we eat here.

Pros: great steak

Cons: facility is smaller and likely a challenge for mobility impaired to access

I was visiting Texas from out of town and was looking forward to a delicious steak. I didn't want to go to a chain, and this place seemed to have good reviews, so I decided to check this place out. The quality of the meat was lacking. I ordered the ribeye, which I knew would be fatty (it's my favorite cut normally), but I ended up throwing out half of it because it was all fat! Totally not worth the price I paid.

Thank you to the Little Rhein Steak House for the best birthday that I have had in 45 years. From the moment that my date and I pulled up until the point in which we we leaving, we were greeted and treated like special guests. Our waiter, John, was not only very professional, but he was also very personable. The food was excellent. We started with the beefstake tomatoes, then the steaks, asparagus, potatoes and finally the chocolate cake. The wine that we drank was also superb!

Pros: Food, Wait staff, Atmosphere

Visited San Antonio this weekend, was looking forward to eating some good steak. Little Rhein is NOT the place. Very disappointing food, and especially service! Too many, so i'll just list: restaurant/service: was not greeted by hostess very cramped restaurant no parking lot, valet only unprofessional/unclean appearance of wait staff unfriendly wait staff waiter did not wait until i cut into my steak to leave (ordered a filet rare) waiter did not serve ladies at table first no "thank you" at all, even when walking out of the restaurant steak had no flavor (table next to mine using A1!??) A1 on a $40 overcooked steak, should tell you something is wrong, either with the steak or the clientele. my opinion? BOTH

Pros: outdoor patio

Cons: service, food, everything!

While I enjoy the white linen tablecloth steakhouses with deep dark wooded walls of the classic chain steakhouses, Little Rhein is a pleasant change in ambience with top grade steaks and a solid wine list. The cobblestone surroundings and casual attire were surprising. If it's hot and humid, opt for the air conditioning on the inside. It was a little louder than a Ruth Chris' or Morton's. While it is ala carte', the side dishes are enough to share. The desserts were excellent. But the filet earned the restaurant's reputation as a top notch steakhouse.

I was disappointed that side dishes were a separate expense and that the service was lacking.

Pros: good food

Cons: no parking, side dish were extra, poor service

Little Rhein Steak House is the best steak in San Antonio. I've eaten at quite a few steak houses around town, some "chain" and others locally owned, and Little Rhein offers the best overall dining experience. The best food, excellent service, and a fantastic wine list. Don't waste your time (or money) anywhere else.

Pros: Fine dining service, great steaks, awesome wine list

Cons: reservations

This charming little restaurant overlooking the Riverwalk in San Antonio serves up the best steak I have ever eaten in a restaurant. The wait staff is courteous and attentive. The ambience makes for a delightful dinner.

Editor's Review

A little stone house with history that's meaty and meat good enough to make history.  See the full editorial review.
