Diamond in the Rough
by lydia3597
We have visited Crumpets on many occasions and always found the quality of the dishes to be above our expectations. Remember to ask for the fresh seafood of the day or any specials as we've found that they've recently come up with some new dishes which are worth trying!
The staff is attentive and professional and takes special measures to celebrate special occasions as well as to accommodate any dietary restrictions. Crumpets has a sauce that is non-fat and sugar free which goes well with chicken and beef dishes - my wife is diabetic.
Although, Crumpets is well know for it's incredible desserts, they have recently added a sugar free creme brulee' with raspberries and an AMAZING sugar free Carrot Cake. My wife had the Carrot Cake and insisted it was the best she'd ever had.
If you've never been there, my suggestions are to make your way over to Harry Wurzbach Road, enjoy the atmosphere and try the Beef Wellington - few can get it right - but, Crumpets has perfected this dish!
Thank you, Mr. Maedar for still providing a unique dining experience that leaves one looking forward to the next visit.
Kudos to you and your staff.
- Pros: Consistent quality of food, Ambience, Professional Staff
- Cons: Tough to tell when the restaurant is open due to parking lot
Hidden Treasure
by willyt
My wife and I ate at Crumpets last week and the experience was top notch. My wife had the duck in a port wine sauce and I had a ribeye steak with a lobster tail. The food was cooked perfectly and the service was excellent. Everyone should try this hidden treasure!
- Pros: Unrushed dinning experience
- Cons: None to mention
Valentine's Day Disaster

My boyfriend was really excited about this place. He's heard nothing but great things about it. He decided to make us reservations for inside incase the weather got too cold. We pulled up and the scenery was like a little hide out in the middle of the city. We were really excited. As soon as we checked in, he got a feeling that it was not going to go well. The owner was checking us in and told him we were sitting outside. Then after ten minutes he finally got us on the list for inside. This was the first sign of no one in that place being on the same page. We finally got sat at 830 when out reservations were for 8. But we were still excited. The only speedy thing about our service was the water glasses. Our order wasn't even taken for another thirty minutes. Ten minutes after that, we finally got the bread, which was the only tasty part of the meal. My boyfriend had no water in his glass for over thirty minutes before he had to flag someone down like he was marshalling in an aircraft. Our appetizers finally made it but tasted like they were made at the beginning of the night. my soup never made it to me and when our food finally got there was after 10pm and mind you we were sat at 830. At the first bite my boyfriend took of his luke warm over cookd chicken breast, he just had to talk to the owner. He then acted like we were in wrong! Then our waitress had the nerve to tell us to come back when it wasn't a busy night. I'm pretty sure my lobster sat under a lamp for awhile. We didn't take a second bite. All of our dirty dishes and glasses sat at the end of the table the entire night. Our waitress had four tables and not once looked at us. If the service was better, we wouldn't have minded the wait. The patio looked romantic and the guitar player was the only thing that saved the night. We ended up going to Zio's where the food and service was 1000Xs better.
- Pros: Ambience on the patio
- Cons: everything else

The dessert to die for is Crumpets Delight--caramelized custard-sponge cake and strawberries topped with whipped cream. It was awesome. The lunch special included dessert which was a major surprise for me. Everything was great, the food, service, and the atmosphere. I will be back and recommend this place to many people.
- Pros: All entress served with salad and vegetable
- Cons: No happy hour and closed between 2:30pm and 5.

We have lived in many cities and travel a lot both for business and pleasure. It has been great hard to find good restaurant in San Antonio, but with Crumpets i think we have a winner , we have eaten there probably
a dozen time over the last few months with small or large groups and the service has been impeccable, the food fantastic and excellent. We especially love the lamb chops, the duck and all there seafood also , great deserts ,full bar and the wine list is quiet large and has some great choices not expensive . The decor is elegant and not noisy, the patio looks over a creek ,beautiful, we recommended highly.

We love this restaurant , the food is always well prepared and the portion generous. The Ny strip we ate last visit was the best we ever had , the salad was simple but very fresh with excellent house dressing , the vegetable crisp and very fresh .The choice of desert is incredible and all wonderful .the wine list is reasonably priced and has a large selection . We will keep going to this beautiful location.
- Pros: all
- Cons: none
Spectacular ambiance, not so spectacular food
by lnajarian
The night I visited service seemed to be on a whim. The bread was simple, crisp and buttery, quite tasty. The dinner salad was rather boring, just a spring mix and a few sliced tomatoes. However, the whipped tarragon dressing was delicious, if only they hadn?t drowned the lettuce in it. The lamb was to be prepared medium rare, rather I received 3 less than generous well done chops. The fresh rosemary, Dijon mustard, and garlic crust was absent as well. It was served along an uninteresting traditional mint jelly straight out of a jar. The potatoes were prepared hours ahead of their serving time and not heated before I received them. They were dry, chewy and burnt around the edges; inedible. As for the steamed vegetables I figured I could fill up on those. No such luck. The carrots were steamed the same amount of time as the greens and were hard as rocks. The whole medley was under seasoned; I don't even think it was seasoned at all. I passed on dessert and the less than indulgent wine list.
- Pros: Ambiance
- Cons: Price for the quality of food you receive
Atmosphere and food, a definate favorite.

Walking from the parking lot through the trees and lush landscaping helps you relax and sets the tone for an enjoyable dining experience. Try sitting in the rear room overlooking the brook. The food is well prepared and the wait staff are seasoned professionals. Try the fish. It is always fresh and prepared the way you like it.
Excellent atmosphere!

We were sent here on recommendation from friends. They understated the lovely ambiance, the truly great food and service. It has become one of our favorites in San Antonio. The desserts alone are worth a trip. One night we watched as their waitresses handled a large group with precision and efficiency, it was like a ballet. Highly recommend if you haven't been already.
