Excellent Customer Service!

by saabguy

We have nothing but great things to say about our McMillin Home and the experience we had building it. Sales, the design center, construction, mortgage...well, everyone was great to work with and actually cared about our needs and our wants. We were not expecting to be involved in every step of the process, but we were and we really appreciated that. The Warranty department is AWESOME and has never made us feel like an imposition, no matter how minor the request, and we really like their "Talk To McMillin" website. We love the community we live in and we've recommended McMillin to everyone we know...even if they were'nt looking for a new house.

  • Pros: Personal touch, involvement, flexible, proactive, knowledgable
  • Cons: None that I can think of.

Great Experience!

by Ellen56

I have built a home and have only experienced complete satisfaction from the materials used to the building process and finally the Warranty Department. We had minor cosmetic issues with paint touch up that was fixed immediately upon our service request, and done professionally. Our neighborhood takes pride in home ownership and I would not hesitate to reccommend this builder to any of my friends. As a matter of fact, my daughter and son-in-law also built a home as a result of our positive experience! I encourage everyone to experience the dedication this builder exudes. Our construction superintendent was conscientious and completed our home not only to our satisfaction but he exceeded our expectation!!! Good job!

  • Pros: Dedication to customer satisfaction
  • Cons: None experienced

GREAT experience with McMillin Homes

by lacaldwell

We had our home built in 2005, starting with Gordon Hartman Homes which was sold in the middle of the process to McMillin Homes. We were assured that it would be an easy transition, which it most certainly was. We were a military family living in Germany while the house was being built and had no way of physically checking on the progress. We were very nervous, never having owned a home before. But our salesperson sent us frequent updates and we could check the progress online as well. During out pre-closing walk through our construction superintendent told us to be picky and to mark off every little thing we found, which we did (although most of it was very minor, cosmetic things). After moving in we found a few more minor things and between the construction superintendent and our warranty rep. they were fixed quickly and to our satisfaction. Since then we have had NO problems with the house. We find the construction, quality, and value to be excellent. Our total experience with McMillin Homes was GREAT, and we still love our house!

  • Pros: Beautiful plans, nice neighborhoods, great value
  • Cons: Wish we could have built from the start with McMillin

TERRIBLE!..maybe the worse in SA!

by yellowrose1234

IMHO, ONE star is actually TOO MANY for this company! Building a home through McMillin (which was Gordon Hartman Homes when we first started the process) in San Antonio, TX has turned out to be the worse experience and biggest waste of money of our lives! What was to be our dream home has turned into the bane of our existence! The problems, from doors that won't close properly and destroy the door facings, roofs and decks that leak and cause interior wall leaks, poor plumbing, dry wall that is coming apart, concrete that is cracking, defects in home design, faulty drains, poor quality materials, little to NO supervision by the job supervisor, etc, etc, etc, are too many to list in their entirety. The people in the "new home warranty department? were beyond slow to respond, VERY hateful when they did, and with almost every problem refused to acknowledge and address it saying it was OUR fault..."normal wear and tear"! TOTALLY and COMPLETELY UNTRUE! Words can't even begin to say what a horrible, heartbreaking, frustrating, UNhappy expierence this has been! I would not recommend this company to my worse enemy! BUYER BEWARE!

Do NOT recommend

by saresident

We had a terrible experience with Gordon Hartman, now McMillin Homes in San Antonio, TX.

We bought a brand new home because we liked the floor plan and we thought it was a good value for the money. Little did we know about how many problems we would have with our new house. On top of all the problems, their ?new home warranty department? was very confrontational and rude when we called about all the problems. My husband and I ended up losing about a month and a half of working hours just waiting for them to fix everything. This spanned over the course of an entire year.

As soon as we moved in, the problems started. Here are a few of the problems we had: 1.Didn?t have hot water in one of the showers. 2.The wiring for the alarm system didn?t work, they had cut into the walls to fix this. 3.The wiring for the air conditioner was set up wrong and we had $500/month electricity bills while they figured out what the problem was. 4.The main shower was built wrong and we had a lot of leakage until they had to completely rebuild the shower ? they also had to replace the ceiling where the leakage had happened. 5.Toilets broke multiple times. 6.Our front yard was ?uneven? so they had to rip the grass out and put it back in ? it never looked the same. 7.Doors didn?t close properly and they had to fix them.

We will NEVER even look at Gordon Hartman/McMillin houses again. Buy a house at your own risk!

  • Pros: good floor plans
  • Cons: quality, service, everything else

Disappointed

by kw725

I am very, very disappointed in this company. There homes are nice looking and are more a good home for the money than not, but the building process leaves much to be desired. They were to start our house three months ago and it is still not started! Now there is a good chance that the weather will turn ugly and who knows when our house will be finished? I am very unhappy with the way this has gone so far and sadly, if I knew then what I know now I would definitely have gone with another builder.

Update: I just read in the newspaper that Hartman/McMillen (formerly know as Gordon Hartman Homes) ranked next to last in the top 10 builders list. I'm NOT surprised. I don't know how they managed to not be LAST.

  • Pros: Average homes, look good, but once finished they are full of problems that take forever to be fixed!
  • Cons: Poor customer service, SLOW to build, regret using them
