Amazing food...the best Thai in San Antonio!

by etowah at Citysearch

The best Thai food around. Although the location and exterior don't look that great don't worry....the food inside is amazing. Each dish is presented in a beautiful manner, the prices are extremely reasonable, and the staff is friendly. There are a lot of regulars who frequent this place. I can't recommend it highly enough!

  • Pros: Food, bring your own wine, beautiful food presentation
  • Cons: The strip mall its in is not very nice

I have been to thai dee twice and each time got the pah sa awee.... or somthing like that. Everything about the food was worth the drive ( i live over 25 minutes away) and the prices are great. I will continue to go whenever I get the chance. Those that don't go are seriously missing out.

  • Pros: best thai food ever

Love Thai Food -- but not from here

by Jenz at Citysearch

I just can't believe this restaurant got all of these rave reviews. First time I ate there it was "just okay". I ordered the Lemongrass chicken. A little on the bland side, chicken tasted like it was boiled. Thought I might give it another go, just in case:

So three of us from our office ordered a selection to share. The pad thai was good, except for the chicken. It had a unusual flavor as if it had been near spoiling before they cooked it. once again -- boiled, not stir fryed. We had the spicy basil w/ beef. After chewing a piece of beef for 3 minutes I had to use a napkin to get rid of it. It was obviously a cheap cut of beef with plenty of cartiledge that was never going to be broken down by human teeth. The last thing ordered was Red curry w/ chicken. Horrible, Not thick and rich like it is supposed to be. Very skim-milk thin with little to no flavor. We DID NOT FINISH OUR FOOD -- it was that bad.

I have eaten at a lot of thai restaurants because it is my favorite cuisine -- this restaurant is LOUSY. Do not go there.

Just tried this 3/27/09

by Janzer at Citysearch

I tried this Thai place yesterday for dinner. I've eaten at different thai restaurants around San Antonio, and a couple in California. I started eating Thai around five years ago and have been hooked ever since.

I had seen Thai Dee during my drives to work and school and continued to pass it up because of the location and exterior weren't the most attractive. I'm glad I finally stopped in yesterday. I had the Pao Sol, a dish I have never seen on menus. It was ridiculously delicious! I also ordered the spring rolls which come heated but not deep fried, along with some kind of sweet honey sauce. Also really great, but too much for one person. The price really doesn't reflect the portions you receive. For example I'm 5'11" / 190lbs and I ate the entire Pao Sol bowl, with spoon and fork of course (I didn't see any chopsticks around.) It filled me up for hours, and in retrospect I should have only eaten half...but it was so damn delicious! I'll know better for next time.

I highly recommend stopping in. Don't let the exterior fool you. The interior has been decorated in a brown and gold palette with nice intricate table cloth designs. The chairs add nicely to the design and the paintings add to the overall color, style and culture. The menu system is straightforward and has a similar pattern to the overall style. I'm a graphic designer, I couldn't help but comment on the environment. I agree with whoever said this would be a nice date restaurant.

The service was exceptional. What I thought was a nice touch is that the waitresses treat you like a person rather than a number, and will give ideas on the menu in case you aren't sure what to order. Even though I'm pretty familiar with thai food, it was nice having a little interaction other than the standard "what do you want to order."

Great place, I will be frequenting very often since I live just down the street, will recommend to friends, and will take guests out to eat there. I noticed someone had said they serve no liquor they found that to be good. I on the other hand find that a downside since when I go out to eat I like to have a good beer or two...and no I'm not talking miller, coors, or bud.

One small note, whoever wrote the 1 star review was obviously trying to discredit the restaurant. Their comments were very unfair and I'm sure pretty much anyone will discount the one bad review in light of all the good reviews given.

Food 5 stars

Service 5 stars

Price 5 stars

Environment 4 stars (can't help the location, but inside is great)

Diamond in the Rough

Best Thai food in the city. Doesn't look like much from the outside (right across from Furniture for a Cause), but they've done some renovations inside and made it look surprisingly good. Nice family business-- Love the sweet woman that operates the place. Order the chicken Pad See Ew. Just the right amount of sauce, and I can't even begin to describe the flavor. The spring rolls are delicious and crispy. I am apparently starving for them right now!!

  • Pros: Food, Service
  • Cons: Neighborhood

You'll think you're in a foreign country or heaven.

by Rhetorikolas at Citysearch

I've traveled all around the U.S. and never before did I know such a great restaurant was located in my own town. It's the best homemade tasting, high quality, hole-in-the-wall, Thai food I've ever had.

It sets a new standard for all other restaurants. The service, the presentation, and even the reputation are all leveraged incredibly high.

I ordered an egg-roll appetizer (pretty cliche, yet the best I'd ever had). I've had homemade Korean and Filipino before, and this tasted just as fresh. Warm and compelling. Soothing all over the body.

For a soup I had a Wanton soup, the waitress recommended lemons and I was so busy with my appetizer I didn't know what condiments to get. It was a great choice.

My friend ordered the Thai Coffee, while I got the Thai Tea. They're served in long glasses with cream at the top. Extremely delicious, they were like desserts.

By the time my main entree arrived, the Lemon Grass Chicken with Jasmine Rice, I was already completed satisfied. The main course was exceptional. I had to take most of it home because it was so much.

Overall, the quality of service for the low prices are almost unbelievable for such an awe-inspiring and delicious restaurant.

I've never left such a large tip before in my life.

  • Pros: The best damn food I've ever had and will continue to have.
  • Cons: Interesting location, and a bad parking lot- can be remedied by expansion.

Amazing Thai Food in San Antonio, Texas

by Poostid at Citysearch

By far the best Thai Food I have had in years, since my friend shut his restaurant down and moved back to Thailand. He taught me to cook with simplicity and care. Thai Dee has met my challenge of finding a restaurant that could compare to mine and my friends cooking and flavors. I have searched all over Texas and several other states. Thai Dee has opened up new hope in me that there are other restaurants I can go to and satisfy my love for Thai Food. Thai Dee actually introduced me to a new twist on one of my favorite curry dishes. Chicken Green Curry Noodles and Panang Curry Noodles, they serve the curry over noodles instead of rice. I could not get enough. I ate at 2 other San Antonio Thai restaurants and then found this one. I ate here every meal until I had to go home. The Tom Kha soups are excellent and the Curry Noodle dishes are addictive. Hope you enjoy this place as much as I did. Service is prompt and friendly. If I lived in San Antonio I would be a regular. I will miss this place.

  • Pros: Amazing authintic Thai Food
  • Cons: Poor parking lot, do not let this discourage your visit

BEST and most AUTHENTIC Thai restaurant

by educatedpalate at Citysearch

This is REAL Thai food. Not some americanized concoction that lacks the medley of aromas and flavors authentic Thai food has to offer. Having been spoiled by a Thai chef trained in Thailand who taught me that Thai food is to be served on a bed of jasmine rice and eaten with a fork and spoon, Thai Dee is the only restaurant that comes close to the thai cuisine I've sampled. Their food is full of flavor!! I had the ginger fish which was the perfect balance of sweet and spicy (you have to eat the hot peppers too:) along wih a perfect glass of Thai tea. From its intimate environment to it's excellent service, and vast selection of REAL thai cuisine (I've yet to try everything, but I will!), Thai Dee is as close to a great home cooked meal in Thailand as you can get!!!!

  • Pros: Great food, excellent service, intimate atmosphere
  • Cons: parking lot has potholes, not the best location

thai first timer

by geothegoat at Citysearch

This is my first time posting and first time eating Thai food. The waitress was nice and recommended khee Mao from the noodle section and it was great. Spicy and tasty, I put it down like I was at a hot dog eating contest on the 4th of July. Since this is my first time I didn't have anything to compare it to but I'd still recommend it. The outside is a little shady but don't be fooled. I was on my way to eat somewhere else but turned around to give it a shot and I'm happy I did. I'll be back with my posse.

  • Pros: food, service, price
  • Cons: small parking area

Thai Thai Dee

by toddIntown at Citysearch

Just gets better and better. Ignore the one star rating as for 1) place has been renovated 2) the guy is obviously an idiot. This is amongst the best places in town to eat.

  • Pros: place is awesome
  • Cons: its in a crappy strip center
