Great food. OK, let me put in my two cents! I've been to this restaurant 4 times, and two out of four they were out of my favorite dish "Mofongo relleno de mariscos" and believe it or not they were out of the ingredients to make my favorite drink "Mojito", so having said that which may sound negative, I still recommended it, the food is very tasty, the prices are decent and the servers are friendly. So my plan is to call ahead of time and make sure they have mariscos to prepare my favorite dish or they need to step it up in their inventory department. A word of advice; just give it a try, I have a friend who

You gotta try it!!. Alrighty! reading the posts I just gotta shout out... Good Eats!! Now first off you gotta know you are not in PR! get serious... and you are not at Mamis! but, it is good food. The jibarito plate is delic, pasteles are great. If you are new to this type of yummy food I suggest you go for the buffet... a little bit of everything.

The wait persons are friendly and helpful. Good folks! They may be a bit busy so chill out and just enjoy!

My family has been coming here for the past, I don't know, 4-5 yrs? Ever since Maria closed her place over by Sun Harvest, remember? That was more PR/cubanito but, still good.

Anybody know any other places here in San Antonio? let me know...

Went once.... I won't come again... Not what I expected.... I'm puertorican, and my family own a restaurant back in PR, so, basically we know pretty much about latin caribean cusine... I went to this restaurant because we moved to San Antonio a year ago and I was looking for a good place to eat a good quality and tasty puertorican food, mostly a good mofongo... We heard about this restaurant and we decided to try it. When we arrived to the restaurant guided by our GPS, the first impresssion of the location and the appereance of the place wasnt the best one... When we got in, the waiter that received us wasnt like very friendly and just told us to sit wherever we want to, we arrived like at 2 pm. He was chatting with somebody for a while first, then he sent a lady to bring us the menu (which were very limited and quite pricey for the type of plates they were offering). When they gave us our plates (3 mofongos al pilon, camarones, bistek y carne frita) they looked nice at the first sight the presentation was decent, but when I smell it wasn't good... the bisteq had a very strong bad smell, like the smell of something rotten, and the taste was awful, the fried pork was extremely fried, too dried, had a bad smell and was basically impossible to chew and swallow, sincerely the meat was like if it were rotten. The shrimps were eatable, but not like wow... you can have better shrimps in a chinese buffet at a comparabel low price lol... The mofongo was very bad, very dried and the platanos were getting maduros so the taste of it was like kind of sour... if you have eaten mofongo before you know what I mean... The total exceeded the $60... just 3 plates and 3 juices (parcha). I seriusly wont recommend it to anyone who are looking to eat a good puertorican food...

more than expected. I went for lunch, and there were a lot people there. The buffet was fresh, and the price was good. The chicken and the rice was just great (easy to accept the taste. The taste was "different" at the first bit, but you will find the delightness of the taste after you try for the second bit!---good good!) the iced tea (sweet one) was just good! different than the regular iced tea you got anywhere else. And the dessert was just a must-try. The one (jell-o? cake?? custard yellow with dark caremel on top) was just great! one of the greatest dessert I have ever had in these years in SA-- not too sweet, great texture, and very close to what you will expect from a $15 dessert from a good fancy real Frech restaurant. However, go during the lunch time or dinner time when normally a lot people are there, so you will get good fresh food. Other wise, you will not get what I just wrote above, but bad and old chichen and old and black cold fried banana, and worse of all, you will see a digged, mushed throw-up like dessert cake on the plate (you should always assume no one has a greater skill to spoon a cake like you)

Great. The waiter was really nice and the restaurant stayed open after hours to feed me and my husband. The live music was great and set the mood. I loved it so much I have told all my friends about it. The food was cooked perfectly and very tasty.

La Marginal lives up to its translation " marginal". After the build up of Puerto Rican cuisine from the allegedly great La Marginal. I am sad to say that my dinner there rivaled one of the worst meals I have ever had from Mc Donald's. The prices' seemed fair, and the description of the plates seemed to be authentic. When we received our meal the high light to me should have been the maduros, unfortunately what should have been sweet plantains were no more than cold tostones. After diving into disappointment with the muduros, the rest of the meal seemed to be a downward spiral of mediocrity. Even though the food itself wasn't the greatest, it could have easily been made up for had any of the components been served hot or even made fresh. Maybe it was a bad night, or perhaps its' being happy putting out a non quality product.

Excellent taste-ok service. The food is delicious and has an authentic taste to it. The service was ok, nothing great and not as bad of an experience as others have mentioned, just ok. The food is worth the visit and I must clarify that the rating I am giving is based on the food itself. We were in San Antonio for 4 days and went back 2 more times. In all three visits, we never had an experience as mentioned in some of the other reviews. My wife and I invited some family and they liked the food so much, they returned once more as well.

I recommend the mofongo with fried pork, the appetizer sampler and the tostones. The chicken was also very good. The seasoning used on the chicken was very rich in flavor. The buffet includes several dishes and dessert. Amongst the dishes is paella which is really a spanish dish but it was also very good. I understand the dishes are not the same ones everyday and may vary a bit but still will give you a good sample of Puerto Rican food.

I would hate for a food lover to automatically dicard this option from their list because of the previous reviews commenting on the bad service. As I mentioned, the service was ok when I went. Not as bad as others have mentioned. I would say, give it a try. Worst case scenario, you will have a delicious meal that may take a while to get. Not a bad deal.

I use to love it. I have really loved this restaurant for years despite the horrible customer service such as no one could explain what I was eating I REALLY LOVED THE FLAN. I went on Tuesday and there was a customer sitting at the table blowing his nose LOUDLY . That wasn't any fault of the restaurant just gross. The customer however left the filthy napkin on the table and a manger 3 minutes later wiped the table down with the dirty mucus filled napkin. Then more customers sat there the table had never been wiped with a clean napkin!!!! or disinfected or anything!!! My husband went to the restroom and came back and his plate was gone which is great because it is a buffet but the server left his fork just laying on the table and who knows WHAT are table had been wiped with !!!!!!!!! I will NEVER go here again and they need a class in SANITATION 101

Bad luck. The food smelt great and the presentations look amazing as well. I tried to take my father out for dinner for a different cuisine, but the poor service caused us to leave before we could try it. We waited over 20 minutes with closed menus and had yet to have our order taken. Only 5 tables were occupied, and ther what seemed to be 5 employees and a manager on duty. It is a shame, for this place came highly recommended by friends. We paid for our tea, and explained our reason for leaving to the manager and all that we got in response was "thank you".
