The Saltgrass at Huebner Oaks is horrible. My date and I arrived at 5:30 on a Saturday. We were seated within 15 minutes of arriving (good), but had to wait 15 minutes before anyone came by to take our drink order. My lemonade arrived on the table within 5 minutes, but my date's drink and the waters didn't show up for another 15 minutes. Another 10 minutes go by. Finally, our waitress took our entire order (appetizer and meal). We wait for at least a half an hour. When she does come back to our table, she has the complementary bread (which is suppose to be brought out with the drinks), the appetizers, and our dinner salads. Umm, ok. All of these things are suppose to be brought out at different times, but i guess since we have been there for an hour, she figured we were hungry. !?!? Even though we were very hungry, everything tasted bland. The bread was not warm and not very good. The busboy took my date's bread plate and the waitress took my bread plate, even though we were still picking at the bread. The appetizer (fried mushrooms) were ok. The dinner salad was made out of iceberg lettuce. The entire time we were sitting there, the couple at the next table was complaining about how long it took to get their drink order in, and then how long it was taking the food to arrive. When they did get thier food, it was not the food that they ordered. Note: they had a different waitor, so it must be a problem with the management. The steaks, which cost around $20, were bland and not worth the money. The only flavor on my steak was the blob of butter on the top. The mashed potatoes were runny. Bad service, bad food. The bill for 2 dinners (without extras) and an appetizer, no alcoholic drinks, was over $60. That is too much money for bad service and food that I would compare to any lower-end chain restaurant.. At least my company was good.
Pros: location
Cons: small portions, price, service, flavor of food

The mushrooms with ranch are wonderful. the potato soup is delicous. The food no matter what you eat will have you coming back for more.
Pros: The mushrooms are the best
Cons: the wait is long, mostly when there's so many empty tables.

I don't know if I can think of another mid-priced steak restaurant that is better than Saltgrass. The steaks are so full of flavor and juicy; they are just very consistent. It can get a bit crowded especially on Friday or Saturday night, but you can really say that about most restaurants. You may be able to find a better steak at Morton's or Ruth's Chris, but you will also pay a lot more for it.
Pros: steak
Cons: can get crowded

Although it is a chain restaurant the steak was excellent. The rib eye was cooked as ordered and seasoned perfectly and topped with garlic butter. The salad was fresh with tasty dressing. The sides (vegetables and romano potatoes in our case) were both very good as was the bread brought to you before the meal. We enjoyed a couple of beers as it was happy hour (3-7) and they were inexpensive and good and cold. If you're looking for a good steak, visit the Saltgrass.
Pros: Tasty steak
Cons: None

My son was a graduate of Lackland Air force base and we were there for his graduation. Ask several of the local Airforce long time Sargents where do you go for your family for a good steak and out of 5 we ask all 5 said Saltgrass Steak House for price and good food. So we went there on my son's first outing after becoming a Airman for Lunch. We got Excellent service and the food was outstanding. Each steak was prepared to perfection. Very tender and the best cuts off the cow. We came in and our son was in his airman blues and right away the hotess gave him a very pround thank you for serving our country. Then with in a very short time we were seated. As we were seated the busboy was setting our settings and he told my son thank you for serving our country. The our Waiter came out and he told my son thank you for serving our country. As a Dad my buttons were about to rip off my shirt I was so pround. I looked acrossed to see my wife had tears in her eyes at their professional way of treating our son. We can not be more glad that we went to Saltgrass Steak house to Treat our son to a Steak Dinner.
Pros: very Professional and caring about our well being in their Restuarant
Cons: No free refills on steaks Ha ha ha ha ha

My son had a free meal coupon from his school. Only paying for three of us we still got charged almost a hundred dollars, and we all left feeling hungry. The portions are very small. I would certainly say if you think they have good steaks you should get out more! They steaks were OK except my wife's rare was medium.
Pros: Decent staff, nice ambience
Cons: Small portions, high prices, overblown reputation

For special occassions, I always choose to go there. The menu is more varied than at a lot of places and we have never had a bad meal or a bad waiter or waitress! My pet peeve is having an empty glas and I have never emptied my glass of tea there before more is offered. To me, this is a mark of good service! We have to drive a distance to get to the restaurant but it is worth it! Kezziah

I've eaten at Salt Grass in many Texas cities and they are consistently excellent and San Antonio is no exception. I recently made lunch reservations for 8 and everyone from hostess to bus boy was extremly polite and courteous. We were seated immediately even though we were a bit early. Our waitress was excellent in seeing that everyone has what was needed. The Prime Rib is excellent!
Pros: quality of food, service, good value

If you want the best steak and the best service, go to Saltgrass. I went there, and everything from the wait time to the server was excellent. Our server Carlee was the best server we've ever had, and the manager was awesome too. We never had to wait for anything, we didn't feel rushed, and the food was to die for. My steak came out perfect, and the white chocolate cheesecake was the bomb! I would highly recommend eating there...I now go there at least once a week! If you go, ask for Carlee. She was awesome! Pros: excellent service, Carlee, awesome food

Whoever wrote that review about Outback out-classing Saltgrass is wrong. Saltgrass is a good steak house. They are a little pricey, but the quality of food is much better than the McDonald's of steakhouses, Outback. The interior is rustic and open. Service was decent. Great place to take a first-date or meet a group of friends, nice-comfortable atmosphere. If you want a good steak, at a moderate price, Saltgrass is the place to go. Go to Ruth Chris' or Morton's if you want the best and are willing to pay for it.
Pros: Quality of Meat, Ambiance, Overall Appearance
