What users are saying:
Well-designed trails make the wilderness more accessible for everyone.

Off the Beaten Path
There's a reason that "wilderness" is built into the name of this park--even finding the entrance requires a keen eye. City dwellers, prepare to enter a wilderness with the benefits of safety and seclusion.
On the Paths
The park's trails are designed at four levels of difficulty. (Grade 1 trails are easily accessible by wheelchairs.) Clear wooden maps at the entrance and scattered throughout the park, as well as small signs on individual trails, clearly state the level of difficulty and length of each route.
Above It All
Even the largest parks in town are seldom far away from road and air sounds. The beauty of Friedrich Wilderness Park is that it's big enough and far enough away to really escape civilization. The appropriately named (and fairly rugged) Vista Loop Trail climbs high into the park for a view of more trees stretching out in the direction of San Antonio, which thankfully can't be seen.
Wide Open Spaces
by osakamama
This park is wonderful for all of the wide open spaces to totally lose yourself in wilderness. There are always secluded places to meditate upon even when the park is full. Your soul can breathe here. As they say, "In wilderness is the preservation of the world." Help preserve the beauty of this place by packing out anything you carry in with you!
- Pros: Easy to get to, Great hiking trails, Free admission
- Cons: Occasionally crowded, No pets rule, Missing trail maps
