Disgusting Food, Horrible Service and Management

by ACMA

This place is so nasty and disgusting. The food tasted freezer burned and the whole place had a bad smell. Even the popcorn was horrible. We had a pricing issue due to the wrong menu's being placed out. When we complained the manager, Rebecca Rangel, she made us wait in the lobby while she went and found all the menu's that had the wrong prices on them and collected them. About 15 minutes later she came back and gave me back money off of a discount cupon she scanned. She offered no apology. She tried to argue that the prices we were charged were correct regardless of the fact that the wrong menues were out. The "new" menu that she showed me had new prices taped over the old ones. Anyone could have taken that off. When I called the corporate office and spoke with "Gloria" she said they would look into it. I will never go to that theatre again and would urge everyone to stay away. Should I tell you about the time we went to see Horton Hears a Who and there was a bat in the theatre?...

This place was awful!

by raygirl999

It was terrible. It might have been my bad luck but it was bad. Hard to find from the directions. Poorly lit parking lot. Nasty bathrooms. The servers and management were rude. The drinks (I had wine) were too expensive and the food was as well. My friend said when she went last time there were rodents. Luckily I didn't see any but be for-warned. Do not go here, go to the Bijou or the Alamo Drafthouse.

  • Pros: You can drink
  • Cons: Rude servers, owners and attendees

One of my worst movie going experience ever.

by Tidmore

As soon as the trailers started something was wrong with the sound. The score sounded whiny, like someone was slowing down a tape player, and the dialogue was off.

Once the movie started the dialogue was on, but whenever the score came up it was messed up. Then about 1/3 of the way thru a speaker went out and started emitting a crackling sound every time sound came through it. Overall the worst sound I've ever heard at a theater.

Also our waiter wasn't the best, he messed up our drink order and forgot a side we requested. Also the menu says that the waiter will come with 30 min left to give you your bill. But 30min into the movie our waiter brought us ours and asked if we needed anything else. I said we were good for now, but might want dessert and he said he had to close us up now because he needed to go to another theater.

Well Santikos, you cost yourself some money with that, we were going to get dessert, but you didn't give us time. Maybe you should hire more waiters.

Overall very disappointing. I've been to several dinner & a movie places over the last year or so all around Texas and only one does it right, The Original Alamo Drafthouse in Austin. Their three locations are the only ones were it's all done right. Even the drafthouse in S.A. isn't as good as those three, but it's better than Santikos.

But I'll end on a positive note, the Santikos theater had regular movie seats, unlike the place I went in Arlington which had rolling desk chairs. It's hard to watch a movie when your chair has wheels and the floor isn't even. So Santikos, at least you have that going for you. Also the manager was very friendly and helpful when I complained about the sound, giving us vouchers to go to another santikos theater. It definitely won't be this one.

  • Pros: The Manager was nice when I complained
  • Cons: Sound, Sound, SOUND! Bad Waiter.

Enjoyable Theater

by turbodiesel

I use to come to the Galaxy theater when I was younger and this past week was the first time I had been since they remodeled the place. Boy was I impressed. They have a fabulous lobby area. The theater is much better than the Drafthouse which have regular seats, the Rialto has stadium seating. The prices for the food was pretty expensive, but you don't have to eat there. You can enjoy the cheap tickets (cheaper than any first run movie theater in San Antonio) and have your drink and popcorn. It's pretty hard serving food and drinks in a dark theater, but I believe our wait staff did a decent job of not blocking our view, unlike other theaters.

  • Pros: Great parking, movie selection, ticket pricing
  • Cons: Outdated restrooms, dark parking lot and surrounding area

Great for a night out!

by moviemom2

I love the concept of food and movie right from the comfort of your seat! This is a great place. The food is a bit expensive. I would reccommend that they get a simpler menu for kids. I love to go to the movies with my family and it is nice when we can have a great evening in a nice place. This is close to our home and we come here as often as we can.

  • Pros: close to home, ample parking, nice and clean
  • Cons: food too expensive, no kids menu

Not worth it

by rgltx7

I love the dining\movie concept, but this theater is horrible at it. The burgers were awful, me and my date did not eat but two bites. Then we ordered popcorn, and that was awful. Plus, the beers were flat. The waitstaff is awful, and non-attentive. Plus, above all this, the whole theater smells. I'm going to continue going to Alamo Drafthouse, they are much better at this concept.

Great theater

by northnurse

This theater was the first I went to upon arriving in San Antonio. I was very impressed. I have never been to theater like this one. The theater itself is spacious with comfortable seating. There is nothing worse than an over-crowded theater. The food choice is great and the wait staff very helpful. I will definately be returning to this theater again.

  • Pros: parking, Reasonable, Good selection
  • Cons: Long line to buy tix

an old friend

by unknown09er

I used to go to this theatre all the time until the Quarry opened. The quarry is much closer to home, but lately has not been the best pick for movies. The last time I went I spent $20 on tickets, another $15 on drinks (no candy) and the place was filthy. There were nachos, drinks, and popcorn spilled and then tracked all over the floors. Plus, this is way too much money to spend for me and my little brother to see a movie. The Galaxy is clean, the sound is better (love those subterraneans), and it's only $3.25 between 4 and 6 pm!

  • Pros: inexpensive, good parking, great selection
  • Cons: kinda far from home
