A retreat that's sometimes a little too sweet, but the low-traffic location is perfect for romantic dining on the river.

The Scene
With floor-to-ceiling windows, the indoor dining room offers a nice river view in the restaurant at the Westin Riverwalk. However, the patio is the place to be, if the weather allows. The occasional tour boat will float by, but you won't be bothered by the pedestrian hordes prevalent on other portions of the river walk.

The Food
The chef has a bit of a sweet tooth, with many dishes featuring sauces made with figs, raisins, mango, and molasses. The pan-fried lump crab cakes, with sweet pepper-smoked bacon relish, could almost be served as a dessert. The cakes are beautifully presented and topped with thin strings of carrots, cilantro, and mint leaves. For more sweetness, order the rack of lamb with fig golden raisin chutney. It comes with thinly sliced, delicately seasoned goat cheese gratin potatoes. If you prefer a spicy alternative, try the adobo roasted chicken with summer squash.
