Walk ins not wanted...will be arrested!

Could not agree more with Sanative7.
I took an out of town guest in on a Thursday and hardly no one was there at 6pm and they could not believe or accept that someone could just show up for dinner without calling ahead..they could not have been more rude, condescending or frankly SNOBS at this jerk joint.
They would rather maintain their arrogant attitude and let a $300 ticket walk (that's what we spent next door at the Palm) then allow an unconfirmed reservation in. I was embarrassed for myself, my guest, and San Antonio and have NEVER seen such SNOBS in this city. If this is what you get at the front door, I can certainly understand the bad service inside that people are talking about!
They have lost my expense account and my business forever (trust me on that) and I will NEVER recommend them to an out of town business partner.
We went next door to the Palm and those folks the food terrific!. That's the place where they welcome and appreciate guests. Could not have had a better experience and will go back.
This place does not reflect the San Antonio friendly attitude and I apologize to all tourists that this place does business here.
Thank Gooodness for Tourists

Some of the food here is actually pretty good. If you don't mind being treated as a banjo player at an opera, this may be the place for you. My wife and I are native San Antonians, professionals, well-dressed, etc. We have eaten at Bohanan's a couple of times, and the service is uniformly awful. Most of us can understand a lapse in attention, which is what most bad service is, but at Bohanan's they also have that wonderful quality of service that informs you that the staff hasn't overlooked you; you're just not worthy of attention. Like I said, I think we're OK customers, just not good enough for Bohanan's. Thank goodness for tourists, because if there were no tourists in SA, this place would be a taco joint by now. A taco joint with better service, I daresay.
Good Food but Bad Service

1/10/2009 My husband and I took another couple here for their Anniversary. None of us had ever been there but we were looking forward to a wonderful experience. When the waiter came to take our order, one of the 4 of us didn't order a salad. The waiter said, "Don't you want a salad? Everyone ELSE is having one." (I thought: What, is this guy a car salesman?!) That was my first clue as to what was to come. Our appetizer came out at the same time as our salads. He never brought the vegetable side dish one of us ordered. My steak was delivered without the special Prawn on the top that I had ordered. ("oh, I'm sorry that will be right out.") The Goat cheese mashed potatoes were brought to the table with no serving utensil. After waiting 15 minutes for the missing prawn, and never receiving the serving spoon for the mashed potatoes, I finally got up to find the manager. I saw our waiter and he said, "Oh, are you looking for your prawn?" I said, "I'm looking for my prawn, a spoon, and the manager". The manger came over and I told him about the vegetable, the serving spoon, the prawn. The potatoes were cold by now and I told him to forget the vegetable and prawn because we were all finished with our steaks. He was apologetic and said he'd speak to the server. The server later returned to our table and apologized and offered us free dessert. But he never brought a dessert menu! For a place of this caliber, I would never expect such horrible service. The result? All they did was take the prawn and potatoes off the bill. To top it all off, that night at 1am, my husband was sick in the bathroom for 3 hours! Needless to say, we will never go back.
- Pros: Good food
- Cons: Terrible service from our waiter
The Best. Bar none.

My wife and I visited San Antonio from Houston for a romantic weekend getaway. We had read about Bohanan's after it received 2nd place in the Texas Monthly Best Steakhouses issue. It did not disappoint. In fact, having been several times to the restaurant which was awarded 1st place, it was underrated by Texas Monthly. The candied jalapenos with cream cheese starter was excellent. We also had the Chateau Stack and Kurobuta steak. If you go, do not miss the French Grilled Oysters appetizer. They were the best. Chef Bohanan did visit our table and was gracious in describing the history of his restaurant, his plans for the future, as well as our common connections to Corpus Christi. However, the service from Jose, as head waiter, and Chris, who assisted, was impeccable. Regardless of how good the food was, the service we received was unparalleled. We now recommend Bohanan's to all of our friends, and gladly recommend it here. For us, it is the No. 1 steakhouse in Texas. For those who go, don't miss having dessert on the "secret" balcony (ask your waiter).
- Pros: Service, food, liquor/wine selection, "secret" balcony
- Cons: None.
The Best Steakhouse

Went there with another couple. Had the best experience ever. Get the Akaushi Beef, it melts in your mouth. Expensive but worth the money. Wine, Steak, Dessert, everything was wonderful. Ask for Renee, she made the experience over the top!
- Pros: Great Service, Staff very knowledgeable.
Great Service and Experience

I took a group of conference goers here after reading the review in Texas Monthly about Bohanan?s being the second best steakhouse in Texas. Across Houston St from the Majestic Theatre, it is a very nice downtown location. The night we ate there Paul Sorvino was also dining there. The wait staff is very efficient and friendly. The Bar pours perfect drinks; I had a Manhattan, straight up with KnobCreek Bourbon that was excellent. We were a party of 10, and the wait staff was always prompt and courteous with their attention. The explanation of the difference between the Akaushi beef and normal prime beef is very good as is the presentation. They made a point of telling us that the Akaushi beef grades at 3 grades higher than Prime. Our server also recommended the Ribeye cut of the Akaushi beef for its flavor. Their specials the night we ate were very good as most of us took the African Prawn along with our steak. I had their escargot appetizer, which was prepared in a cheese and garlic sauce and presented in an escargot dish. For our my entree I went with the Akaushi beef Ribeye, Pittsburgh style. I also ordered a special caprese salad made with Purple Cherokee heirloom tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella cheese, with a 12 year old aged Balsamic vinegar dressing. As an accompaniment to my steak I ordered the Sauteed Portobello Mushrooms in red wine sauce. I must say the salad was excellent as were the mushrooms. I was, however, disappointed in my steak. First it was a thin cut for a Ribeye, and while the chef prepared it perfectly Pittsburgh style, it didn't meet my taste or tenderness expectations. An associate ordered the Akaushi beef filet and let me try it. Friends that is the cut to get. It was fork tender and had a wonderful flavor. I will definitely go back, but will probably not shell out the $95.00 for the Akaushi beef. The wine list is awesome and the sommelier did great and lead me to a real nice 2002 Silver Oak cab sav.
- Pros: Service, Service, Service
- Cons: the Akaushi beef is expensive
Excellent service and attention to the details

My husband and I went there for our anniversary yesterday, and oh it was such a treat! I was sooo impressed with the friendly service and all the little things they paid attention to such as the wrapped lemon so that the seed doesn't get in the food and sorbet before the main meal to cleanse the palate. Since it was our anniversary, they gave us free champagin, which was nice! I would definitely go back again. Yes, it is very pricey, but for special occasions, it is worth it.
- Pros: Great service and ambience
- Cons: Pricey steak
Best Experience
by Crys143 at Citysearch
Great customer service and food. We were very impressed. We splurged and tried their specialty, Japanese Akaushi Steak. It had a different taste, but was delicious. Next visit we would probably just stick to their USDA bone-in steaks. They have more of a variety of side, salads, and just about everything than other steak houses. We tried the baked squash and it wasn't the best. There were more crackers than squash. But, we are looking forward to returning because there are so many items we would like to try.
It was our 5th year anniversary and it was an amazing experience. Our table was sprinkled with rose petals and we were greeted with glasses of champage to celebrate. To our suprise, we even had a special occasion discount on our ticket! This is really the best dining experience we've ever had.
- Pros: Steaks, Service, Variety
- Cons: NO cons
Wow - Treated like Royalty!

Okay, so my husband and I had made reservations at The Lodge, another romantic place we had been a couple of years before and we were running late, so we weren't able to make them, so we had to find something fast to celebrate our anniversary. I googled restaurants on my cell phone and called out to my husband the names and Bohanan's was the first name to pop up on restaurants, and he said, "I've heard of that place and it's supposed to be one of the best steakhouses in San Antonio", so I said, sure so we called (of course this was on a Tuesday evening) but we were able to get a reservation 30 minutes in advance (enough time for us to drive there) and we were treated as though we were regulars and had made reservations weeks before. With just a little bit of inquiry they gathered that we were celebrating our anniversary and the maitre'd after putting rose petals on our table, handed my husband a rose to hand to me - what a nice gesture. Mind you, I know my husband had nothing to do with it, since we had just made the reservation minutes before. Further, the wine was excellent and the steaks were outstanding (we have eaten at most of the nicer steakhouses in San Antonio, and this by far was the best). To top it all off, on our dessert plate, the chef personally wrote "happy anniversary" on it - I have never been treated like that before, very unexpected for an unplanned evening. Service was excellent - not too long, not too short and the ambience was definitely what we needed to celebrate our special day. And the best part was that we didn't even ask for special service on our day, it was I guess just part of their service - definitely a plus!!
- Pros: Service, Food, Ambience
- Cons: Food took a little long, but they kept feeding us other stuff while we waited, which was even better!
Too much soy sauce
by dnh at Citysearch
With reservations, once we were seated it took 45 minutes to get salad. The steaks were prime and very tender however the steaks had way too much soy sauce, it ruined the natural flavor of the steaks. It should be noted that Mark only needs to use some sea salt, pepper and olive oil.
