Does anyone in this town know how to do hair?
by lt21 at Citysearch
First time here - the location is not that easy to find. I had to wait almost an hour past my appointment time. Everyone was super nice, but really not listening to what I was trying to have done. The cut was really not flattering to me at all and not current. I was kind of expecting cutting edge - not that kind of place. And it cost $65.00 for the cut and dry. Plus they try to sell you all kinds of products the whole time they are doing your hair. They take walk-ins, so I guess that's what you can expect from that kind of place. At any rate, I will continue on my endless search to find someone in San Antonio who knows how to cut hair!
- Pros: The receptionist was nice
- Cons: High cost for poor haircut
Incompetent Staff
by txlegal at Citysearch
I called to schedule an appointment with someone who is able to cut curly hair. When I called the receptionist said that I would have to call back later. Which at that point you should be able to tell me who is available for an appointment. But I told myself that I really needed to find someone to cut curly hair so I waited and called back. When I called back the receptionist was clueless on what I needed and then began to look through the appointment book (from what I could hear) for someone with availability. Now my assumption for the reason of me calling back was that she needed to figure out who was available. The receptionist told me that a certain stylist had an opening on a Saturday, so I took that appointment. I then received a call a couple days after that from the receptionist saying the stylist that I was scheduled with was not working that day and that I needed to call back and reschedule. My question is why would you schedule me for an appointment when the stylist wasn't working. Your staff is a reflection of how you are as a business owner and I am definitly not impress with the management of the Great Hair Studio. I am wondering how this salon achieved a five star rating.

Thank you for bringing your scheduling problem to our attention. We will review your situation with the staff and make corrections so it does not occur again. I hope you will reconsider and give Patricia or Patsy the opportunity to work with you. Both of these stylist have naturally curly hair and know how to style it and deal with any issues you may be having. The salon is very busy and scheduling is sometimes a problem. We would recommend booking atleast a week in advance. We strive to take care of all our guests to perfection, but illness and family emergencies occur causing scheduling changes.
Poor customer service
by txwitch at Citysearch
I scheduled a cut and color consultation for my daughter and me at 4:30 on a Sat. While we were out shopping, the receptionist called me and asked if we could come at 3:15, as our scheduled stylist had an opening due to a cancellation. I altered my schedule and we arrived at the salon 15 minutes early and were informed that the stylist would be with us as soon as she finished with her present customer. Thirty minutes later, we were still waiting. At that time the receptionist finally offered us something to drink. When the stylist finished with her customer, she proceeded to work on another customer without saying anything to us (no apology, nada, zilch, nothing). The receptionist had disappeared and there were two other stylists talking and hanging around the receptionist's desk. After waiting 45 minutes, I told the stylists hanging around the front desk that I couldn't wait any longer, crossed our names off the list, and promptly departed the salon. Once again, no apology for making us wait. Normally, I would not have waited as long as I did, but I'm desperate to find a stylist that can properly cut and style extremely curly hair. Unfortunately, I'll never know whether or not this is "the salon," as their total lack of customer service cost them new clients. I would not return if they offered to cut my hair for free. I am still wondering how they received their 5-star rating--I was not impressed.

Our deepest and most sincere apology. Saturday?s are extremely busy and before Holiday?s they become even more intense. This is not an excuse, just a fact. We strive to run the salon in a manner that is both orderly and friendly. Our receptionists know to greet clients immediately upon arrival and offer them a drink. Our stylist moved your appointment in an attempt to rearrange the end of her day to accommodate a last minute hair emergency. The problem occurred when her existing client requested additional services which caused a last minute time problem. We try very hard to take care of our guests, but this time we dropped the ball. Please forgive us, we have a 5 star rating because our Stylists and staff are very good. If you will contact the salon we will arrange for a consultation with the Director at your convenience.
Extremely Disappointing Part 2
by kennib1 at Citysearch
She did however offer to fix it but after 6 hours of scalp torture I declined sitting there any longer. I would also like to mention I know the difference between chemical burn and having a sore scalp from my hair being pulled, and was was definately NOT chemical burn. I went to pay my bill wanting to leave the terrible experience ASAP and my grand total? $227!! I asked the girl to break down the charges for me and she told me to "be happy..for all she did that was cheap"!! I used to have my hair done regularly at a very nice salon in Miami and I never paid that much unless a mani/pedi was included. Oh I forgot to mention, I did get my eyebrows waxed. I had to have them redone the following day as once again..no difference. Still had a bunch of little hairs that were just missed and splotchy. This salon (there was no manager on site) was unprofessional, extremely overpriced and had no regard whatsoever for the comfort of their customers, which was evident after the 8th tray to the legs and then the one to the back. Save your money and your scalp ladies.
- Pros: Absolutely None
- Cons: Too many to mention

The stylists strive to make guests visit as pleasant and beautifying as possible. Leslie is highly talented and experienced stylist and would never harm a guest in anyway. We were concerned about doing the work you requested because your expectations were unrealistic. She explained to you that color correction can take multi visits depending on hair condition and color. The salon worked with you for over 6 hours attempting to satisfy you, and weaved over 100 foils in your hair to create the look you requested. Scalp irritation, although rare, can occur with chemical services. The salon apologizes for your unsatisfactory experience.
Extremely Disappointing
by kennieb1 at Citysearch
After reading all of the reviews on this site I decided on this salon. I called and asked for their best colorist and they set me up with Leslie. I explained to her what I wanted and showed her a pic of Jennifer Anistons hair as my end result. My hair was dyed dark mind you with some red in it so I knew this wouldnt be achieved that day but I did expect it to be noticably lighter when I left. I was there for 6...yes 6 hours. I have long legs mind you, but I must have been hitt with her cart a minimum of 10 times in the legs and then once, so hard it lightly bruised in the back (that one I finally got an Im sorry for) They finally took me back to rinse everything out and they put the wrong toner in so had to do it all over again ,they had a trainee do it. She was very nice and probably the high point of the day but I swear by the time I got out of that chair I felt like my hair had literally been ripped out at the roots. She started to dry my hair and totally didnt follow the "start from the ends to remove tangles" protocol so I got to sit through another 20 minutes of having my hair and scalp ripped at. When it was finally dry they realized they had "missed a spot with the toner" and I had to sit another 15 min for it to develop..when it was rinsed guess what? They found ANOTHER spot they had missed so again, I sat for another 15 minutes waiting for them to fix their mistake. After all that and it was dry she showed me my hair. Not only was it not AT ALL lighter, it actually looked gray...GRAY! I was very upset but kept it to myself. It must have however been obvious I wasnt happy because the staff was realizing it so they kept coming up telling me how great my hair looked which made me even more upset as I knew they were just telling me that because they knew I was upset. The reason I know that is because my hair looked absolutely NO DIFFERENT as far as hue or color goes. It just looked like I had aged 20 years overnight due to the gray hue it now had...>cont

worst hair disaster ever
by sssssmith at Citysearch
this is the worst hair color I have got from a salon. I walked into the salon with My color just a shade lighter than my natural hair color... I also had to have a toner added to my hair due to how light the color looked after the girl colored it. I walked out of the salon with dark roots that looked like I had my hair colored weeks ago... they Specialize in Color?
- Pros: you can walk in and get service right away
- Cons: you can walk in and get service right away

nice employees, not high quality cuts or color
by crsm at Citysearch
First let me tell you I am new to San Antonio. Hair salons in general seem to be higher prices than where I am from originally. I used to go to a premier salon back home. I am used to a stylist that can tell you what looks good and what doesn't. Every time I would get my hair cut I would always be pleased and receive many complements on my cut and color. I walked in this salon and it doesn't look as great as I would expect. It looks like a 10 dollar walk-in salon. I almost walked out when I found out I had to sign a form before getting my hair colored. In the end the stylist was very nice but it doesn't make up for the lack of quality she had. I am sure there are good maybe even great stylist there but I was not lucky enough to pick the right one for me... I left the salon with no shape to my hair( a fluff dry job for 160 dollars) for that kind of money I expect to not have to go home and restyle and cut missed pieces. I hope to find the kind of salon I am used to.
- Pros: nice employees
- Cons: look like a dork walking out the salon

Communications is very important when you are visiting a salon for the first time. If you do not get the look you want you need to tell your stylist or salon director before you leave the salon. Every salon wants their guests to leave happy and beautiful. Please contact the salon immediately so we can give you the Holiday Hair you want and deserve.
RUDE!

This place was something else. I had a real early morning appt and i get there and there was like no other customers and i still had to wait while they were chit chatting. I had booked for a wash, cut and dry/style. and when the gal who was doing my hair found out, she was like "I dont have time to dry it!" she exclaimed to the front desk gal. I was shocked! then she REAKED like cigarette smoke and i was tellking her i have been trying to grow my hair out, she quipped "Eat right, take vitamins..basically take care of yourself" CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT
- Pros: shampoo smelled good
- Cons: just rude

Terrible Customer Service
by jessiesherm at Citysearch
At first I was very pleased with the hair cut and highlight job that I paid $160 for (not including tip) however upon viewing my hair in the natural light it had a green tint to it. So I returned to the salon to get it fixed and was given a toner and told to come back if I still was not happy. Upon further inspection half of my roots were not even highlighted and the green was gone. I was upset and called to recieve my money back. The receptionest I spoke with told me that was not an option and that I should come back, yes a 3rd time, I explained to her that I did not want to have to return yet again for a service that should have been right on the first visit. She told me there was nothing more to do other than wait for the manager to call me back. I informed her that I had all the intentions of writing a poor review on city search and she replied that I was only one customer. Apparantly the days of one customer being important are long gone, at least at this salon. Also, the manager never returned my call. I did not get what I paid for, and was treated like my business did not matter. I should have ogne to Super Cuts for the $9 special at least their bad serivce comes with a friendly smile and a come back soon. I DO NOT RECOMEND THIS SALON!
- Pros: The salon was nice and they waxed my hands to rejuvenate them.
- Cons: I paid far to much money for a bad highlight job and was not treated well upon my complaint.
