Nice Doctor, poor office staff

by 3teacherkids at Citysearch

The doctors are really nice, however, they have the worse office staff ever. EVERY time I have had to take my kids in we have had to wait at least an hour past our appointment time. I had to wait two hours one time. For those of you with little kids you know this can be really hard, especially when they are sick. The office staff has also gotten our appointment time wrong causing us to have to reschedule. Dr. Donnel is nice. He takes his time with the kids... sometimes too much time. He seems a little over cautious- he told us not to take our perfectly healthy newborn out in public until he was older. I have two older kids and I that was the first time I had ever heard anything like that. Also, the waiting room is just one big room. I prefer a place where sick children are seperated from healthy ones.

  • Pros: The doctor is nice.
  • Cons: Very, Very, Very long wait time

Ridiculous staff

by DFM at Citysearch

I expect great customer service whenever I step into a pediatricians office. I've been to other offices with great staff and this is not one of them. The pediatricians are great, they take thier time with the patient, cover all steps needed to improve conditions in easy to understand doctor lingo. Today, a clipboard was literally thrown to me so I could update demographics, then come to find out, there are no available flu shots, after being told 2 days prior that the vaccine would be available if we made appointment at that time. THEN, they wanted to charge a copay for the H1N1 shot, when my plans covers all cost, vaccine and administrative fees 100%. This staff member told me that she is going by what the insurance told her, I requested she speak to the rep. I was talking to and she outright refused. Needless to say, after the way I was treated, I left, without my son getting his shot. I called later and spoke to a "supervisor" after being told that there was none, but I was being persistant. This woman didn't want to hear me out. Kept interrupting me, doubting the poor customer service given, and once I asked her why she was a supervisor if she wasn't willing to hear what happened, she got defensive and said " I am ending this phone call" and hung-up. Are you serious? DON'T GO THERE, there are plenty of good Pediatricians in the area, where the service is much better. I have given this place 1 too many opportunities and today was the icing on the cake. I ended up getting my son a shot last minute at my daughters pediatricians office, only after hearing of my situtation at other office, they felt terrible. And it was cost free!...I'm kinda thinking that this office is scheming patients. I'm thinking that they booked the appt to get me in there knowing they had the H1N1 shot, but not the seasonal flu shot, knowing that would be a seperate appt, therefore....2 copays? Hmm...this isn't over yet until I speak to one of the doctors. I am sure they wouldn't be happy with this service.

  • Pros: Good Pediatrician
  • Cons: Poor Customer Service

More Trouble than they are Worth

by slake2000 at Citysearch

From the first visit, when we moved 1+ yrs ago, I was sized up to see how many office visits they could get from me. My son takes medicine that without it he doesn't function. This requires an annual visit and a script picked up once a month. The monthly scripts have been a nightmare because they have repeatedly let my son run out even though I call 7+ days in advance. The final straw came when I had follow up behind them AGAIN and was told that they had to see him before they would write his script. I don’t respond well to my child's health being held for ransom so they can charge for an extra visit. He had been in for his annual visit 6 months ago. They said that didn’t count because they didn’t do the physical. My response was why didn't the doctor do whatever he had to do and why wasn’t I called about the problem with his script? Got their stock excuse of wrong phone# written down. They decided they would write the script if I set up an appt. Fine. Done right then. Late that night the nurse left a message saying they were not going to write him a script unless he set up an appointment. The right hand never knows what the left hand is doing with these people. If this was the first time I would have been ok but it has just been one long screw up with them.

If you want a doctor for your child that truly cares about your child's health over lining their own pockets, keeps accurate health records for decisions or you have a child that needs anything over medicine for a basic sniffle or vaccination then these people are not for you.

If you like having to take off work to make multiple visits when one is sufficient, like having to constantly chase behind their staff to get them to do their job, like the drama of constant screw ups, like sitting in a waiting room (might be 30 minutes but could just as easily be an hour or more), like the feeling of your child's health being used to strong arm you, like being talked to in a condescending manner then call these people.

  • Pros: They get it right sometimes
  • Cons: Unnecessary Visits & Horrible Staff

Horrible Wait Times

by ajmitch75 at Citysearch

I just got home from this office and after almost 2 hours- I finally was able to get my daughter's flu shot. I am not sure what took so long to get a flu shot, but 2 hours is just unacceptable especially for a 2 1/2 year old. I do like both of the physicians, but just can not deal with the wait times anymore. This is also not my first experience with waiting so long in this office- something needs to be done! Sorry, but I will be finding another physician.

  • Pros: The doctor's are very good
  • Cons: WAIT TIMES

The Best Pediatricians in the area

by elizabeth101 at Citysearch

We followed Dr. Clay-Flores from Children of Texas Pediatrics because he was literally the only doctor my son had seen that he felt comfortable with (he was 6 mnts old at the time. in 2004). Now I have two boys my oldest is 6yrs now and the youngest is 3. They have been seen by both Dr. Donnell and Dr. Clay Flores and I couldn't ask for better doctors.

They are both very cautious doctors and take time in making diagnosis. They way heavily on what parents feel and say in regard to the seriousness of the child's ailment. I appreciate that especially w/antibiotics. They aren't always necessary but Dr. Donnell has prescribed them in the past when he asked if it would make me feel more comfortable.

If you are worried about wait times then try to make and keep an appointment. When you get squeezed into a busy schedule you just have to expect a wait. As for the staff, well bad staff happens at every doctor you just have to be prepared for it and know that you are there to see the doctor not just his staff. I've never been disappointed in the nurses who assist the docs.

I've seen other Peds. and in my opinion you can't do better than these two gentlemen.

Great Pediatrician

by vsh1109 at Citysearch

I am really surprised by the comments about the wait times! My daughter is four months old and we have had several appointments and we have never had to wait more than a half hour past our appointment. Dr. Donnell is wonderful with our daughter and the nurses and front staff are all very friendly. Once you do get in to see the doctor he is very thorough and you can expect to be there for a while but I would much rather that than a doctor who doesn't spend enough time with our baby. The only thing that does get frustrating sometimes is the dr. is extremely cautious (Didn't want us to take the baby out for two months after she was born!) But other than that, we are extremely happy with the care our baby has received here!

  • Pros: Wonderful with kids great staff
  • Cons: over cautious

Dr. Jose Clay-Flores is wonderful!

by texmexchica at Citysearch

Wow, everyone has a comment about the wait times!!

I love my kids doctor, Dr. Clay-Flores. His bedside manner is very good and he's a very gentle and child-friendly doc. You can tell he genuinely care about the health of his patients. He once had my child get a simple test just to make sure everything was in order and to the shock of our lives, my child had LEAD in his system. He was about 6 or 8 months old at the time. We've been forever grateful to him for that. I once took my son for a checkup because of a viral infection and I guess I must have not been too pleased with his answers because later that evening Dr. Clay-Flores called to make sure everything was okay because he felt I wasn't satisfied with his responses. He's been the best pediatrician and I'm very happy being their client.

Now, as for the wait time....yes! They are bad! Try to get your appointment early in the morning! I hate waiting so long but it's so worth it because he does take his time with your kids. A lot of times the reason why I wait so long is because my kids get sick at the last minute and i'm usually squeezed in to their already full schedule. But for me, this is minor in comparison to the care my children receive. Another negative that does really bother me, is the fact that they've changed staff so many times. I miss Stella in the fron desk and the nurse, Anelie, or something similar to that. There was a staff person named Shelly that was super rude but, true to their style, she's no longer there.

I totally recommend Dr. Clay-Flores, the only reason they don't get five stars is because of the wait times and the staff turnover.

  • Pros: great bedside manner, genuine care for patients
  • Cons: wait time and high staff turnover

too cautious and rude staff

by bkr313 at Citysearch

This office has the rudest office staff I have ever met! The Dr Donnell is nice, but my goodness he is over cautious. He makes me bring my child in for everything that I have a question about, and then there are HUGE wait times. I am a new mom and I don?t always know what the best route to go is for little issues like constipation etc, I don?t want to go in and wait for hours to find out what to do.

Changing doctors.

  • Cons: rude staff

We love Dr. Donnel

by mpl26 at Citysearch

I have not experienced the wait times others have listed here. As with any doctor's office I have waited 20 - 30 minutes before. I think that is just the state of our health care industry today. I have had to visit many doctors for my own issues so am keenly aware that almost every doctor has bad wait times. Dr. Donnel is an excellent doctor. He does take his time, and is cautious, which I actually appreciate when it comes to my CHILD. He was not condescending nor rude when we decided to stop doing vaccinations for a while due to personal research. He has been supportive, caring and calm regardless of the situation.

Great Doctors, but HUGE wait times

by winzig at Citysearch

I have seen both doctors here and they are both very nice. The downside is the very long office visits. I have never been out of there in less than 2 hours. Normally you are seen 1 hour after your apt. time and then expect to be in the room for another hour. I have to say the doctors spend a lot of time with you once you finally see them. Dr Donnel's nurses are very helpful and provided a lot of information.

  • Pros: Kind Doctors
  • Cons: Long wait

Looking for a New Doc...

by 789ags at Citysearch

The rude and careless office staff never fails to disappoint...I have experienced scheduling mishaps, extremely long wait times (1+ hour), and very poor customer service overall. As if this wasn't frustrating enough, Dr. Donnel insisted on discussing every aspect of my life and my daughter's life and offering unsolicited advice in a condescending manner.

  • Pros: Convenient Location
  • Cons: Long Wait Time, Terrible Office Staff
